I shot a goggler a few years back that gobbled back to me once at 9;00

at 1130 him and two Jakes came looking for me ,he was strutting coming up the woods while the Jakes feed along to the right of him, maybe thirty yards back. The Jakes didn't find me.;)
If you are sure a gobbler answers you,he will be there sooner or later he will come for a look ,this is where the running spooks allot of birds that guys never see.[:o]

I feel every time you call that bird gets a lock on your location, I don't want him finding me I want him finding my decoys. If I'm setting up in the woods and have an idea where the birds are ,as you should, I will set up , put my decoys up then go closer to the birds and call, if I get an answer I will go back to the decoys and cluck once or twice then go backto myset uplocationand wait. How many guys have told you about birds coming in behind them?:eek:............ They called to much.[:o]

I just watched a show yesterday and the old timer said the exact same thing. Patience is the key with his success thru the years! Once the the tom gobbles to your calling he will come looking sooner or later it might take 20 minutes or it might be 3 hours!

What I do these days is this, and Jim is right on.
I let them know where I am, and then I shut up:D(which is hard fo me);)

Both Turkeys we got last year were done this way. We called a little, we did not even get an answer. We stop callling 30 mins later we had birds.

I now am pick up my scounting these days, I have read it's better to know the where the turkeys are going to be, than calling them in.

Allot of guys here think the birds just quit gobbling ,and the dead ones do and the smart ones gobble less and less as day light gets longer. If you are in a good location there is no need to call more than once every half hour.
And a yelp is the very last call I ever try.[:-]Every run & gunner out there stops and yelps 7 times waits 20 seconds and is off spooking more birds.[:o]

If you get answered, your in the money ,and time is on your side.:)

And as long as I scare them all off besides the one the commits, I don't care;)

When being aggressive stops working, I'll stop.

I know that if I wasn't calling to the bird that was 80 yards out in the field strutting, last year, as much as I did. I'd have never killed him.
