Passive or aggressive philosophy?
IMO....hunting turkeys with a bow (for the sake of this thread.....we're gonna be talking about hunting spring gobblers) is more of a passive approach to hunting them. It's also my opinion that the calling style has to mirror this.
I found myself becoming less and less vocal, last year, as the season progressed (my first real season of turkey calling). What about you? I somewhat agree that each bird "can" be different. Dominance plays an issue........and where the bird you happen to be calling to fits into the pecking order (so to speak) may have a LOT to do with his aggressiveness. But...."in general".......are you far more "passive" (calling) when bowhunting turkeys? |

Bowhunting turkeys is a whole different game than the run n gun style with a shotgun You might as well be hunting two different animals |

I disagree, I am very aggresive in the early am. As the day goes on I slow up. But morning I hunt just like I had a gun in my hand.

I'm Aggressive as well, we only have 5 days and like to get another bird, good eating! I get a tom on the way in I try not to call over call! Nothing like running n' gunning with a bow or gun in your hand, just love being out there!

I learned with a shotgun and still call like I am using one. I was very aggressive last week and had three birds come close and then hang up because I couldn't stop coughing! Dang headcold! I intend to call pretty aggressively next week when I'm in NM trying to kill a Merriam. I will, as always make adjustments as needed.

I'm very agressive in my calling.
I've noticed I tend to call in larger birds with more aggressive callings, its when I become more passive that I tend to have Jakes come in. I don't know. I've only been hunting them for 10 years, I've yet to figure them out completely. |
