I've wanted to a couple times when tresspassers have put them up on my grandparents' farm, but I have always just left a nice note instead

I found two yesterday when scouting my new hunting land. If I find out they're there without expressed permission.....I'll take them down and leave them a note.....but I won't take them.

No and there is an old lock on that the cable has actually grown into the tree (or vice versa) within sight of one of my ladder stands on a local farm. I KNOW no ones hunted it in many many years (more than 4 years, minimum). I could take it with no remorse...but I won't.

Define stealing.

I don't think that taking down a stand and keeping it if it is on your property is stealing.

Now, going on public land, or trespassing and doing it is stealing.

I've had a couple of stands stolen, three trail cameras that were later located and stole back and shot at by a kid with a .22 telling me to get out of HIS stand even though it was on his neighbors property and put up by me. Nothing like showing up in the dark, climbing up 15 pegs only to find an empty tree!!!

I have taken 2 stands that were put up on my family's farm. I tried putting the notes onthem, but it gets to the point where I could really care less. I don't feel bad at all.

That being said, I once talked to a police officer in PA who told me that technically a stand placed on public property for a period of time could be considered abandoned and free to take. I don't know how true this is. Maybe someone with knowledge could chime in.
