RE: have you ever stolen a treestand?
ORIGINAL: Rob/PA Bowyer I've never taken one home but I have taken one down that was way over the line. I took it down and layed at the base of a tree with a poster sign on it. Had it been any farther off the line than it was, I would have acquired it. If I find one on my own property, it will go home with me and replaced with a note to come see me. If they do, we'll have a talk, if they don't, I now have another stand. And I would hope that the 4 people who so far voted yes are under this assumption and not outright stealing. There is no place in bowhunting, this forum or my world for thieves. |
RE: have you ever stolen a treestand?
Kinda funny - I think just about everyone on this site has had a treestand or a trailcamripped off at some point or another. But when we ask, nobody has ever stolen anything... Thousands of people reading these posts, year after year, and seemingly everyone has been victimized, but nobody is ever the perpetrator.
There must be a couple Badguys in every town who have garages filled to the brim with treestands and trail cameras - and the Badguysmust not post on Huntingnet. LOL All I'm saying is that for every crime, there is a victim and a perpetrator. And we seem to have an "inordinate" amount of victims, but no perpetrators... All I can say is that I'm honored to be in the company of such a morally upstanding group! LMAO The King doesn't believe the results of this poll for a second. He was born at night, but not last night. |
RE: have you ever stolen a treestand?
Dunno quick, if someone is so hard up that they have to steal a treestand then maybe they cant afford to own a computer either, and they likely don't have a job with computer access either.[:@]

RE: have you ever stolen a treestand?
I posted a thread last year that stated the same thing, Fran (ironically.....right after I got my stand and feeder stolen, I think;)). I think it was titled something like......I'm ashamed of my fellow "hunters".
I said it then....and I'll say it again......my "fellow hunters" rarely miss an opportunity to let me down. (When I say "fellow hunters".....I'm talking about EVERY PERSON who goes into the woods with a weapon........NOT the HNI community) |
RE: have you ever stolen a treestand?
I will also go on record as I (knock on wood) never had a stand or cam stolen from me either. And I leave 2 ladder stands out year round on a local farm. Both have my name and the farmers name engraved on plates on the stands.

RE: have you ever stolen a treestand?
This is the "MOMENT OF TRUTH" Im honest I voted yes! But in good reason they were where they did not belong!

RE: have you ever stolen a treestand?
Lanse, every treestand I've ever had yanked or damaged... It wasn't about money. Or somebody needing a new treestand.
It was fueled by envy and the desire to drive me out of a particular hunting area. People get awfully protective and territorial over whitetail hunting - and they're not above vandalizing a treestand or ripping off a trailcam to demonstrate their displeasure with your "invasion" into "their" hunting area. The King will flat out tell you. When he gets victimized, he strikes back. It usually doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who ripped you off and why they did it. These people are usually the bottom of the barrel, both from a socioeconomic and an intelligence standpoint. Seriously. I have no patiencewith these slimebags and their anticsanymore. |
RE: have you ever stolen a treestand?
I think that the issue of theft is gonna come down to where you are and the class of people in your area. I've never had a stand (or anything else) stolen off of my land or land that i have hunted elsewhere in Illinois.

RE: have you ever stolen a treestand?
I had my Summit open shot stolen last year on my land. I also had 3 lock ons stolen 3 years ago by my neighbor who is anti hunting. Thats another discussion and itself!

RE: have you ever stolen a treestand?
I can only speak for my area, but when i think of the folks who i grew up around who might be capable of stealing a treestand from private property, I can't think of too many of them who would be regulars on a place like HNI. But then again, considering the temporary insanity that many folks tend to exhibit during deer season, I do think that self-reported deer stand thieves might be a bit under-reported among members here.
