Default Gmmat or any other Viper TStand owners??

I am used to an API style climber, but I have to look into another climber because mine was stolen! Anyhow I borrowed one of my buddys Vipers last year and hunted from it one time and had a problem that I wanted to see if anyone else has the same problem??

I am only 5'11'' so I am not tall by any means, but I can see where some of you taller guys could definantely have a problem??? Everytime I would pull the bottom part of the climber up I would wrap the cable around the back part of the climber, causing me to make short climbs?
Has anyone else had this problem or is it just something that I would have to get used too??

I know of three people that have the same viper and they say they never had the problem I just described? The only reason I am considering this stand is because of the comfiness!!

OH!! I see what you mean.....Took me a few minutes....You're just pulling the platform too high, and the platform cable is over the top of the upper V.....right? Yes, I have that problem occasionally......

It's only an issue on the smaller diameter trees because of the excess cable floating out there. Larger diameter trees you won't have that problem. Obviously, just don't pull the platform up as high.

Don't use the sit feature and use it like a hand climber or put the seat section above your head and do pull ups using the side rails.....I can cover 3 feet or more per "move" using it this way.

That's interesting. Never thought of trying that...I may give that a try here when I go out to trim some new spots.

Thanks Mobow~~ I wasnt aware it was just with the smaller diameter trees, that makes sense! Also Yes.. dont pull the platform up as high, I am just accustomed to that style of climbing and wasnt sure if I was the only one with the problem!

Hahaim lazy! Actually I am not the biggest fan of heights, so thats why I use the sit feature. Feels more safe to me!
I know two people that climb with the pull-up style you climb, I just watch them and think to myself he looks like a Monkey!! I wouldnt feel safe at all!
Thanks though for the input!

I've got a Viper XLS as well... never had the problem you mentioned. Like mobow, I think you're just attempting to take too big a bite with every move.

I'm 6'4", and really don't have a problem. I used to use the Viper XLS, but moved up to a Goliath. I love them, and pretty much hunt exclusivly from my Goliath. They are great stands.

Sounds like you're not putting the top section UP far enough and you're having to shorten your climbing stroke.
