could have been a little bit more forward but we are splitten hairs here. bottom line it is a great shot. it hit the vitals and you had a short recovery and you have a great memory. i believe there is nothing to talk about except maybe a congradulations is in order here. I wish i had a way to post my picture of theone i shot at 43 yards and hit were your green dots was.

Bawana.....6" forward of where I hit would have been a shoulder hit and an exit through the off-side shoulder or MORE likely.......the brisket. Nothing wrong with that if you make it through (I've done that, also). But I don't think that's "optimal".
I shoot heavy arrows with thunderheads and the closer I can come to that shoulder the better.
I have not tracked a deer in over ten years.
Shoot very close, under twenty yards ,and hit them in the front, and they fall within sight.:)

Ever had anyone say they hit'em to far forward?[:o]
Yes. In fact, I've DONE it. ;)
And so have I! Too far forward can easily happen, especially on a quartered deer which is what we are talking about Jim, not broadside or the thread would be 100% different, Jim since Rob's post comes to mind. !

Again, Gee Jim, he took out the heart, yeah, he's too far back. Remember, the term here is QUARTERED! [&:]

Not to start another pissen match but with the shear number of people saying that thats a good shot,I now understand why so many of youask why you can't find your deer after making good shots.
Robs post comes to mind.[:-]
At best that shot is borderline,as an arm chair quarterbackit should be six inches forward.I'm sure it got both lungs butI would never recommend that shot placement.
The results speak for them selves, dead deer.Good shot.
Not where you want to aim, reduce the range, and increase the lead. When the leg goes forward, take the shot.
JIM,
Did you catch the part where he said that deer was quartering AWAY??? That shot is almost perfect, just could've been a touch higher. But not much.

Jeff,
The pic looks like you got a little liver, as well, unless my screen color is off that blood looks dark and kind of grainy.

Well congrats on a well placed shot, and a great deer. Doesn't get much better than a dead deer that is mature.

I just noticed something, why isnt it field dressed? Where is the tag?

Obviousy you don't know the game laws in NC. I don't have to tag it. I call mine in.

And.....he wasn't field dressed in this photo....because I like to take my harvest photos before I field dress them. See....

so alls you have to do is call it in? no tag needed? do you need to pay anything to hunt there then?
Some of you people need to not pretend to know NC game laws. You have "tags" but you call them and throw out the tag. There is not tag on the deer, no tag on the head, no tag on the carcus.

LMAO, how ridiculous some people are.
