But then again, if folks here are prone to lie, then you may not be able to believe their responses to this poll[8D]

I tell it like it is and what I see, some do the same and some don't! I hunt alot of state land and the early bird gets the worm! I told a guy this past late season what I was seeing, the very next morning I get to my tree and he had his buddy 2 trees over from the tree I was planning on hunting that morning! I regroup in a split second and I went up trail from him and had 16 deer come by, he had none!;) Sometimes telling it like it is comes back to bite ya in the ass but I still do!

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?

After getting burned fishing had a guy role up on my spot that i told him about the day before when he said he was going home and wasnt going to fish for the rest of the week. I told him I was going back the next morning. He asked me what time i was going to be out there in the morning. I told and guess what this SOB was sitten right in my morning honey hole. To make things worse I was fishing a tournament he wasnt. So know I lie lie lie lie lie. About fishing and hunting. See any deer? nope. Catch any fish? killed them? what on they ask? a hook. Were they ask? in the water end of discusion.

Considering that I hunt public land along with seven other regulars and they know the land as much as I do ( some even better ) I wouldn't gain anything by lying , even if I could gain something I wouldn't.

This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes, don’t remember where I heard it….

Something to the affect of:

“Don’t ask me about where I hunt and what I’ve seen and then I won’t have to lie”

With that being said, I try not to blatantly lie. “Seen a few”, “Nothing big”, “lot of pressure” etc. Dude - if I’m hunting public/private land and know where a big buck is hanging out, hell no, I’m not going tell some other guy I don’t even know my honey holes… With that being said, if I can help a fellow hunter out without affecting my own hunt, I’ll do it in a heartbeat.

When it comes to huntingAND fishing...I put in the work to find the spots or make spots good. I dont think anyone deserves that information but me.

So to answer the question....I might tell a little fib once in a while[:-]

"Didnt see a thing this morning" or "Havent had a single bite" ;);)

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?

Cool post.

It is so competitive around where I live and hunt that I have to carefully choose my lies so it doesn't seem like I'm lying. I know if I flat out say "Nah, I'm not seeing anything," about my honey hole and the guy sees my car there every other day he'll know I'm lying and start hunting it. So, I have to come up with something like, "Well, I haven't been hunting that long so I don't really know what I'm doing, but I did see a nice little 6 point the other day. I'm gonna keep moving my stand until I can stick him." Hopefully, he'll buy it and think the spot is being boogered up by a newbie hunter that thinks QDM means "Quit Drinking Milk" (that was for you Jim);).

So, yeah I'll tell a fib.

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?

depends who im dealin with. i got a variety of friends...some friends are just people i talk to and hang out with..wont ever consider hunting with them or anything...i will do anything it takes to ensure they dont know anything....

then i got friends that i do hunt with...i bow hunt alone...but got a group that rifle and flintlock hunts with me...theres only 3 of us that bowhunt in the crew...so the others tell us where they see the bucks spotting etc..if we kill in bow season, they know we will be there in rifle to be dogs...

even still with them, i am real careful...they might know a few of my spots...but they will never know them all...i dont rely on anyones word to get me on deer. i aint gunna lie..i listen to what they say when they are speaking of seeing big bucks here and there...but i still go in and do the scouting.

just the other day i was heading out to take down stands and trim brush for next year...a buddy offered to come help..he was bored. but he would be one to try sneaking in behind my back...told him nope..i didnt need help..he thinks he know where i hunt...he sounded bored enough that he might try to come find me...and where he thinks i hunt, he would had to drive down the road i do park on to hunt so i made sure i parked a little ways down the road and on the opposite side just to throw him off incase he did come looking for me...

i do the same in hunting season...i try to park in places that i could be any direction from the truck...keeps the passer bys guessing...you see someone parked in the same spot knowing they are hunting your gunna guess they either just hunt there alot and have nowhere else to hunt, or they know theres a goodun in there...

the land i hunt is all pretty much open to anyone...might have to ask permission, but you'll get it if you ask...i cant keep anyone out...i put in the time and effort to find my spots and try to do what it takes to be on deer...i dont care what it takes to keep my areas hush hush!!
