Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
Obviously, you share your info with your hunting buds, everyone does (or at least I'd HOPE you do) LOL.
But, if you ran into a perfect stranger who legally had access to hunt the same areas as you do - and he says "Have you been seeing anything so far this season?" (and for the sake of argument, let's say that you've been having a little bit of action). How do you respond? Be honest - this is a totallyanonymous poll. 3 choices: [ol][*]Lie to protect your own interest. Tell him whatever you've gotta tell him to keep him clear of your stand sites.[*]Spill your guts[*]Not necessarily "lie," but dance around the truth.[/ol] "nobody else is allowed to hunt my area" is not a sufficient answer. |
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
The only guy I have ever lied to was someone is an outfitter, and I knew if I told him what I had been seeing, I would be seeing my hunting ground go bye-bye.
|
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
so far, I have just told what I know. I've met them coming out of the woods and we get to talking and I tell them what I see, and where I see it,where we are and I tell them about places to hunt they may not know about and what I see there. The guys I have talked seemed to do the same to me although they could have been "dancing" or lying and I wouldn't have known, but they did tell me about some nice deer they, or their buddies, saw.
There may come a time when I dance around the truth,I don't know, but if I didn't want someone to know something I wouldn't lie, I would just not say anything or I would say I am not going to tell them. I don't really see many other hunters when and where I hunt. I am not sure why. |
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
Nothing is anonymous, the Mods see all and know all! And I would lie like a rug to keep the pressure off.
|
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
I guess you guys are nicer than me. My lips are sealed if it is a stranger. "Nope, haven't seen anything, going to go home and look at pictures of deer to remember what they look like."
|
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
I wouldn't lie, no real reason for me since I'm not really interested in big bucks. So, I would be inclined to help a fellow hunter out if that is his goal.
But then again, if folks here are prone to lie, then you may not be able to believe their responses to this poll[8D] |

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
I primarily hunt public ground..I'll lie my azz off
I'm not talking Bow Hunting "Buddies" as I really don't have any that live around me anymore. But to John Q Public who happens to park in the same lot I do, and asks how it went. I never see anything! [:-] |
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
Well if his question is really, "Have you been seeing anything so far this season" I'll tell him the truth. The term "Anything" is extremely broad, and basically you could fit any object into that void. Deer, turkeys, squirrels, that all counts;).
I've had seen way too many places get ruined because the wrong people were given information. The way I look at it is this... I do my homework, I scout, I ask for permission... if they're willing to do the same then, more power to them. But I'm not putting in my effort to give it the results to a perfect stranger. Sorry. |

I believe this is the answer you're looking for.

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
I look at it like any complete stranger that would approach "me" in the woods is not wrapped all that tight and not the sort of guy that I would trust with any valuable info.;)
Probably just somebody out on a weekend pass any way.[:o] |

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
Would, and have. Only, you woudn't know it to talk to me. I lay it on pretty thick, to throw them off the trail. Sometimes I haven't seen a darn thing, other times I've been seeing all kinds of deer way over here in this area way away from where I'm hunting. You know, in an area I've never set foot on...;)

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
I am lucky enough to have a good chunk of private land to hunt on. So there really is no 'bean spilling' involved inasmuch as someone else setting up on where I have been seeing the deer.
But I also have no problems talking to the neighbors and telling them (and showing in form or video or sheds) what is in the area. I hope the honesty is returned but I am pretty sure most of the time it is not. But that is their choice. If they 'know' something big is running around out there, maybe they will hold off on that nice 2 1/2 year old and let him walk, if not, well they pay taxes, shoot what makes you feel good. |

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
I tell it like it is and what I see, some do the same and some don't! I hunt alot of state land and the early bird gets the worm! I told a guy this past late season what I was seeing, the very next morning I get to my tree and he had his buddy 2 trees over from the tree I was planning on hunting that morning! I regroup in a split second and I went up trail from him and had 16 deer come by, he had none!;) Sometimes telling it like it is comes back to bite ya in the ass but I still do!

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
Fran become a deer horder and you will not have to lie;)

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
After getting burned fishing had a guy role up on my spot that i told him about the day before when he said he was going home and wasnt going to fish for the rest of the week. I told him I was going back the next morning. He asked me what time i was going to be out there in the morning. I told and guess what this SOB was sitten right in my morning honey hole. To make things worse I was fishing a tournament he wasnt. So know I lie lie lie lie lie. About fishing and hunting. See any deer? nope. Catch any fish? killed them? what on they ask? a hook. Were they ask? in the water end of discusion.

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
Considering that I hunt public land along with seven other regulars and they know the land as much as I do ( some even better ) I wouldn't gain anything by lying , even if I could gain something I wouldn't.

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes, don’t remember where I heard it….
Something to the affect of: “Don’t ask me about where I hunt and what I’ve seen and then I won’t have to lie” With that being said, I try not to blatantly lie. “Seen a few”, “Nothing big”, “lot of pressure” etc. Dude - if I’m hunting public/private land and know where a big buck is hanging out, hell no, I’m not going tell some other guy I don’t even know my honey holes… With that being said, if I can help a fellow hunter out without affecting my own hunt, I’ll do it in a heartbeat. |
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
I hunt up "no tellum creek" quite a bit.
|
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
When it comes to huntingAND fishing...I put in the work to find the spots or make spots good. I dont think anyone deserves that information but me.
So to answer the question....I might tell a little fib once in a while[:-] "Didnt see a thing this morning" or "Havent had a single bite" ;);) |
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
Cool post.
It is so competitive around where I live and hunt that I have to carefully choose my lies so it doesn't seem like I'm lying. I know if I flat out say "Nah, I'm not seeing anything," about my honey hole and the guy sees my car there every other day he'll know I'm lying and start hunting it. So, I have to come up with something like, "Well, I haven't been hunting that long so I don't really know what I'm doing, but I did see a nice little 6 point the other day. I'm gonna keep moving my stand until I can stick him." Hopefully, he'll buy it and think the spot is being boogered up by a newbie hunter that thinks QDM means "Quit Drinking Milk" (that was for you Jim);). So, yeah I'll tell a fib. |
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
depends who im dealin with. i got a variety of friends...some friends are just people i talk to and hang out with..wont ever consider hunting with them or anything...i will do anything it takes to ensure they dont know anything....
then i got friends that i do hunt with...i bow hunt alone...but got a group that rifle and flintlock hunts with me...theres only 3 of us that bowhunt in the crew...so the others tell us where they see the bucks spotting etc..if we kill in bow season, they know we will be there in rifle to be dogs... even still with them, i am real careful...they might know a few of my spots...but they will never know them all...i dont rely on anyones word to get me on deer. i aint gunna lie..i listen to what they say when they are speaking of seeing big bucks here and there...but i still go in and do the scouting. just the other day i was heading out to take down stands and trim brush for next year...a buddy offered to come help..he was bored. but he would be one to try sneaking in behind my back...told him nope..i didnt need help..he thinks he know where i hunt...he sounded bored enough that he might try to come find me...and where he thinks i hunt, he would had to drive down the road i do park on to hunt so i made sure i parked a little ways down the road and on the opposite side just to throw him off incase he did come looking for me... i do the same in hunting season...i try to park in places that i could be any direction from the truck...keeps the passer bys guessing...you see someone parked in the same spot knowing they are hunting your gunna guess they either just hunt there alot and have nowhere else to hunt, or they know theres a goodun in there... the land i hunt is all pretty much open to anyone...might have to ask permission, but you'll get it if you ask...i cant keep anyone out...i put in the time and effort to find my spots and try to do what it takes to be on deer...i dont care what it takes to keep my areas hush hush!! |
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
If I run into someone in the woods- andmy mouth opens up - any wordscoming out of it are about as reliable as weight loss advice from Rosie O'Donnell.

RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
after reading most of the responses...
i have to laugh...i always felt a tad bit "bad" lying and denying...just because i know i dont own the deer and the land and im lying and denying trying to protect them for myself...even to "friends!" lol but it seems we pretty much ALL do it...and all do it the same ways... theres been days ive came out with a chit eatin grin cause i just caught a glimpse of a bruiser and think i had him figured out for a stranger to say "see any deer?"... "nope..used to see alot of deer around here but the last couple years i havent seen a tail and really no sign of them either!" and like mobow..ive often totally lied...one year i told my buddy where i killed my spring gobbler...(which was a LIE trying to preserve my honey hole...) i was nice enough to tell him i killed it somewhere i KNEW had turkeys in it though...sure enough that chithead went to where i said i killed mine and killed one..same kid that wanted to come take stands down with me...HA! i dont go huntin down other peoples spots...dont try hunting down mine! i would LOVE to gain a "bowhunting partner" someone who is serious like me and puts in the time and work to find good spots so we could work together in trimming, hanging stands, scouting, shed hunting, tracking, dragging etc...everything except hunt together, but combine hunting lands to give us both double the spots and coordinate when and were we both hunt so we arent over hunting or bumping shoulders....but i dont have a friend like that...maybe one day.... |
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
Iwouldusually beat around the bush but if they start asking"See any big ones in there?" I would start lying.
|
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
It depends on the person. If I like them, maybe I will tell, if I dont....I haven't seen much.
|
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
I hunt public ground and I've always beenhonest with others I've met in the field. The last year or two I've thought about keeping my mouth shut though.I've been extremely fortunate in my hunting area as far seeing lots of big bucks.None of the other people that I've talked to that hunt the same areaare seeing much at all. Now either I'm really lucky or just that good and they suck or they are lying. Maybe somewhere in between. Regardless, this yearI have decided to keep my mouth shut and maybe even drag out when no one is around. It will be hard because I enjoy talking about the events of the day with myfellow hunters.

Deny, Deny, Deny. |
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
I tell no one "local" to me what I see except for my brother and one of my buddies.... I hunt all over the placeso if I tellanyone (except for the 2 I mentioned) what I saw I never tell what county or area I was in. I have got boned quite a few times in the past and will not allow it to happen to me again by the "bloodsuckers". [/align] |
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
I don't care if they're asking about squirrels, I saw NOTHING
|
RE: Anonymous Poll: Do you lie?
Few does & a small forkie. If telling about a wider time frame(month)
Nothing, but squirrels, if just talking about that nights hunt. I would include any neat non-deer sightings. Fox, yotes, etc. |
