I shoot a Mathews Switchback XT, Carbon Express Maxima 250 arrows, 100gr. head, I use one pin without any adjustments, and I'm good out to 40 yards

It kinda makes sense to me, because if I remember correctly dont you use your 30yd pin for a direct shot right underneath of you?????

WOW! Do you know what fps you are outputting? I am not doubting you, just impressed. I would love to get 1 pin to 40. How high at 10 yards? How low at 40? Thanks for the info.

I have one pin out to 30 yards. Couple inches high at 10, couple low at 30. My bow is shooting only 274fps. Remember that the arrow has an initial velocity in the positive z-direction and gravity must first bring that initial velocity to zero, and then it would begin to actually drop. I bet your calculations are not taking that into account.
Actually they are, if you are a couple high at 10 and a couple low at 30, your pin must be set around 25, which would be feasible, but your probably 3.5" high at 16-17yds if you hold dead on. Some of that can be accounted for in aiming, but no more than 2" of variation out to 32yds is impossible with any bow, unless the shooting is done in a vacuum that has no gravity.

Joe,
How fast is your rig??? Even at 300, you have a trajectory arc around 17" high, 315 is 15.5". Shooting a 250 you must be shooting a lower poundage bow, or severely underspined. That's a 315 IBO rated bow correct??? And the arrow has to be around 335 or more grains??? Also looks like about 14" of drop between 30 and 40yds at 315, how do you compensate for that much drop with only one pin??? Seems to me, it's make more sense to have 2-3 pins, I have 3 out to 40, and still hold over or under a bit, and my set-up is 273-275fps.

I call BS to anyone who says they have 1 pin and can hold dead on the x from 0 to 30 yards and still hit the x.

I dont care what bow you shoot or how fast it is it aint gonna happen.

A Fred Bear Sparrowhawk!!! I still have one of these and it is definately not capable of doing this!!!! Wasn't even a top of the line bow when it was brand new. Its not a bad shooter, but is most certainly not a speed bow!!!

Bingo...and I had never taken into acount that either untill someone pointed it out to me a few weeks ago. I just ran the numbers....and neglecting air resistance you get that 4" window (2" high max at 14 yds, 2" low at 32) at (corrected p 4). Now we are not shooting in a vaccum, so air resistance(which varies greatly with arrow type) probably makes significantly higher....but possible...I learn something new every day!

I shoot 0 pins out to 40 yards....

Oh yeah I don't have them. LOL

I do have a set on my compound and I have a 15 25 35 45 yard pin. Though I've never used more than the first two. I don't shoot it that often either. I try to stick woth my selfbow. Its so much simpler...no extra math. LOL
