Trophy Hunting "Do you do it"
#31
I am both. When the states started allowing extra anterless tags back in 1991, I also became a trophy hunter. I stock up on meat from does as well as from the bucks I shoot. I've lived on venison for over 15 years. As far as trophies go, I shoot whatever I feel is a trophy in my mind. After all, who is the one that has to live with that decision?

As long as it's legal every animal should be treated as a trophy.I too wait for a mature buck but shoot does.As hunters we need to quit worrying about what our fellow hunter does as long as legal and ethical

I guess I just consider myself a hunter. Not a meat hunter, not a trophy hunter. I just like to hunt. I suppose if you want to slap a label on it based on my preferences, I suppose I could be both. I haven't shot a trophy yet, and I've taken some small bucks in the past. I try to take at least one doe a year for venison, but no I don't LIVE on it. We're all hunters in my book...no one right way inmho.

I concider myself a trophy hunter based on a few things I won't shoot a buck unless it's mature and has a rack that i would put on the wall. I honestly don't hunt for themeat because there are cheaper alternatives I do eat what i kill though.

I'm not a trophy hunter, but if a trophy buck ever gives me a shot, I just might make the switch.

The majority of people who come here are ignorant and only want trophies. I have nothing to be shameful about.
Most places you go to actually prepare the meat for you but they never seem to want it and most stay for about 4 weeks.
To kill atrophy buck is fine but I hate to see the meat go to waste when there is fine meat there.
When I go to MS for 2 weeks I will eat what meat i can but when I have to return home I will give it to my extended family over there as good will.

I eat every deer I shoot. If it's a trophy buck or a doe. Your assumption that trophy hunters waste the meat is ignorant!
Shame on you for calling trophy hunters unethical.
If I ever come to Scotland to hunt I will plan to stay there until I comsume the entire stag. Maybe you can supply me with a place to stay while I accomplish this goal.

No, because its unethical and not true hunting. You kill only what you eat. Not for a head. Senseless killing gets right on my nerves.
However my first kill I would also take the head aswell as with themeatto symbolise my "first one"
There are many so called American "trophy hunters" that come to Scotland purely to get a big red stag and leave the meat. People like that should not come here if they're going to act like idiots and disgrace our hunting heritage.

I hunt for three main reasons:
1. Fill the darned freezer with one of the healthiest forms of protein on the planet... ie deer, elk, bear, turkey, lopersinthe freezer. I refuse to buy processed meats. Nothing better than an elk burger or steak that you killed, butchered and prepaired yourself.. JMO of course.
2. Old Whitetail bucks challenge and fascinate me, if he's 4.5 and older hes a challenge in the pressured lands/public lands I hunt them in. His antler score usually refects his age in this country130 + up to a slammer say.. 150+. Genetics/feed isgood herebut not as strong as the midwest or Canada...but goodenough for me.
3. It's a year around fun and a constant education.
Me a trophy hunter, I dont think so.. Antler scoreis not my main priority. I do let young animals walk though.. I guess it depends on the "DEFINITION" of trophy hunter and I doubt the hunting community will ever agree on that definition.

I always try to shoot what is going to be a trophy for me, so I guess you could say that I'm a trophy hunter. It really comes down to the definition of "Trophy." What is a trophy to one person isn't a trophy to another. Someone that hunts strictly managed land would look at the deer I shoot and wonder how I could be happy with it. On the other hand, someone who shoots the first buck they encounter would see me passing on deer as trophy hunting. It is really a subjective questions.
RemingtonGirl, you have made a habit of making generalizations about Americans and then wonder why people take offense and get defensive. America has a lot of great things about it, but it's far from perfect, as is Scotland. Love each for what it has and try to improve where there are deficiencies. If you just want to bash, shut up.
