RE: Trophy Hunting "Do you do it"

ORIGINAL: HuntingBry

I always try to shoot what is going to be a trophy for me, so I guess you could say that I'm a trophy hunter. It really comes down to the definition of "Trophy." What is a trophy to one person isn't a trophy to another. Someone that hunts strictly managed land would look at the deer I shoot and wonder how I could be happy with it. On the other hand, someone who shoots the first buck they encounter would see me passing on deer as trophy hunting. It is really a subjective questions.

RemingtonGirl, you have made a habit of making generalizations about Americans and then wonder why people take offense and get defensive. America has a lot of great things about it, but it's far from perfect, as is Scotland. Love each for what it has and try to improve where there are deficiencies. If you just want to bash, shut up.
I've met more Americans than you will ever know with my job, majority of passengers are American. So we'll leave it at that.

Yes America is great and so forth. I know, i've been so many times.

Tally ho.

I have passed up so many bucks in the last few years I couldnt count how many. If it looks like it could turn into a real nice one in the next two years, I let it walk. Why rip yourself and others off if you know it can be a great lookin' deer later. I will smoke a doe for some meat though!!!!!:D

I try to do whats best for all of the worlds people,I only try to shoot deer that are old ,maybe weak, andeven down trodden.
Basically inferior specimens.Genetic mutants, cripples just about any handicap that I can use to my advantage to render them freezer fodder .;)

And, with that I have experiance interacting with them and thats where I form my opinions. I do not generalise. Far from it. Turn on the TV and you'll know what Im talking about.

I only speak the truth and try to be honest as possible. I know Scotland isn't perfect too but we aren't shut off from current affairs either. :)

I don't know for sure, but I suspect the meat is left for logistical reasons. And I also suspect that it is left for locals to consume, rather than simply wasted. If your game laws allow for NR hunters to kill an animal and waste the meat then that is a problem with the law, notjust withthe hunters. Labeling a group of people as idiots because you disagree with them seems pretty idiotic.

Im not "idiotic" I have pleanty of education under me,im just telling how it is from experiance and things i've heard from game keepers who i keep friendly with. I understand that you cannot take meat home with you but leaving it with the locals is better than throwing it to the dogs. Like I said earlier i dont like waste.
Like I said...if your game laws allow the meat to be wasted, that's a problem with your country's game laws, not with trophy hunters.

And im sure theres also pleanty who waste meat on American soil too. And that is indeed their problem and they should be ashamed. I dont know many like that but the majority of Americans that I know all keep the meat frozen until consumption.

It is the same with me, when I go to MS I cannot take meat home with me. Its not game laws as such its DEfRA who make these rules to stop disease being passed from one country to the next.

Sarah.
It seems that although you eat as much as you can you are leaving meat behind andfor good reason. well it seems that you find it alright for yourself but not people who come to your country. When i see you leave without meat is it possible for me to think you came just for the trophy and wasted the meat. Really you should speak from personal knowledge and not from what you hear from people you "keep friendly with". If you see hunters waste meat then that is fine but just the same you don't know what these horrible trophy hunters do with the meat. for all you know they leave the meat with guides, friends or families they stay with. Just a thought.

No, because its unethical and not true hunting. You kill only what you eat. Not for a head. Senseless killing gets right on my nerves.

However my first kill I would also take the head aswell as with themeatto symbolise my "first one"

There are many so called American "trophy hunters" that come to Scotland purely to get a big red stag and leave the meat. People like that should not come here if they're going to act like idiots and disgrace our hunting heritage.
The aboveis called generalizing.

ORIGINAL: remington_girl

The majority of people who come here are ignorant and only want trophies. I have nothing to be shameful about.

Most places you go to actually prepare the meat for you but they never seem to want it and most stay for about 4 weeks.

To kill atrophy buck is fine but I hate to see the meat go to waste when there is fine meat there.

When I go to MS for 2 weeks I will eat what meat i can but when I have to return home I will give it to my extended family over there as good will.

Again. How many hunters come to that country? How many are you ever exposed to? Not talking about what you "heard" or saw on TV with that question. Opinions and heresay are not necessarily truth.

ORIGINAL: remington_girl

Im not "idiotic" I have pleanty of education under me,im just telling how it is from experiance and things i've heard from game keepers who i keep friendly with. Explain, are we to believe that trophy hunting americans in your country all throw their meat to the dogs? Who is handling the hunters, the game, are they not responsible for helping find somewhere for it? I mean it's not really practical to ship 100's of pounds of meat anywhere, especially from one country to another, is that even legal?

ORIGINAL: remington_girl

Now the majority of Americans "you" know are freezing the meat until consumption. I thought they threw it to the dogs, I'm probably reading that wrong.
Then when Iasked you this below:

ORIGINAL: NEW61375

What are they ignorant about? How much meat would be an acceptable amount to eat in 4 weeks? A pound a day would still only be 28 lbs. are you saying that after they kill the animal and prepare to return home that if they can't ship it they "waste" it? How do they do that? Do they throw it on the ground, leave it at the airport, hide it in their room when they leave? It seems that the place they are hunting should have some knowledge of local places the meat could be used or donated as most of the hunters probably don't have extended family to leave it with over there, kind of likethe Hunters for the Hungry organization in the states.

Ignorant trophy hunting Americans who waste meat, act like idiots, and ruin your great hunting heritageis kind of what I took from it, can you see how that is exactly the opposite of "not using generalizations" and "speaking the truth". How can you speak the "truth" when you don't even know any of the data involved? How many foreigners hunt there? How many are Americans? What are their options for the meat? Who maintains the meat for them? Are they not equally responsible? And a million other questions I could think of. Sounds pretty ignorant to blast off with comments and have nothing to back them up with orfuel them with other than "I heard". Not trying to be a jerk.

You have backed yourself to a wall with your statements.

To get a "rise" out of us "Americans" and run makes you look bad to most if not all of us.

Americans, as you have seen in your travels, do not start an argument and run. We finish it bloodied or not.

Don't come with your fists up and run with your tail between your legs.. Doesn't look good.

Remington Girl, how many Scots still wear kilts for other than ceremonial reasons? Just curious. Around here in America there aren't too many guys wearing knickerbockers anymore.

In some sorts yes I'm a trophy hunter I guess. Depends on what I'm hunting. If its whitetails and black bear- Yes I would be a trophy hunter. Any other species probably not. The more I get of one species the more pickier I'll get in the future on that particular game animal. I love the meat also!!!!!

I dont like sheep theres too many of them and I just use them as target practice but what i do like is men wearing kilts with nothing on under them - true Scotsmen.
Those true scotsmen must not be doing something right, based on your comment below.
