I have found the 1/4 peep to be the best size for hunting. It is small enough to give adequate accuracy, and big enough to allowample light in for low light conditions when the big boys are roaming.

I use a 3/16" Meta peep. It really depends a lot on your anchor and how far your eye ends up from the peep. In the order of popularity I sell them in it runs like this.
1. 1/4"
2. 3/16"
3. 5/16"

I prefer a 1/4" Tru Fletcher... Allows the maximum amount of light in at dawn and dusk, and it also forms a perfect concentric circle on my Spot Hogg Hunter Hogg it with the large pin guard.

exactly the same set up........it's a win win because I can use the largest possible peep sight and still perfectly frame the aperture for precise shooting.

IMO you should always lean toward hunting sights with the largets visible round housing you can find. That will aloow you the luxury of setting up your hunting bow like you would a target bow but giving yourself the greatest potential light gathering ability for shooting in low light.
