10 reasons why I only use one stand all year
#31
I wish someone could explain to me howyou put up six climbing sticks and a hang-on plus your pack and bow without having to use a lineman's belt and other equipment not to mention a light andgloves etc. Seems like a lot of work and a lot of movement before a hunt.

I wont limmit my self to a climber alone. I hunt private land and I have stands that are perminant and are used for certain times of the year. However, I started using a climber this year for the first time and had great luck with it. I will make it a point this spring to have a bunch of trees marked and ready for set up.

I could see using those climbing sticks in conjunction with a tree saddle, but not the hang on.....just attach the sticks as you climb. Have a pull rope attached to your belt for your bow...After you set-up your tree saddle at the top, just pull up your bow and get ready to hunt. Would take about 10 minutes max.

Hey I love my Lone Wolf as much as anyone. THE BEST stand made, period.
But man thats a lot of work. I think I accomplish all of those things from the safety of my Sit and Climb or extra Stealthy Hand Climber.
But either way..Enjoy!

I don't even own a climber anymore. Sold it and went with the LW sticks and LW Assault...I love it, but I do use other hangons that I hang pre-season.

It sure seems like a lot to do before every hunt to me, but if it works for you......have at it. I like to have my stands in place before summer. I am trying to add as many as I can to our property, but it does take time when you are working. I just like to have everything in place when I enter the woods.

I just moved from IA and a typical year of bowhunting would consisit of 90-100 days in a stand. Lots of doe tags plus trophy hunting = lots of time in a stand. This type of mobile hunting is only for people in good physical condition. It will take some practice and getting your own technique for doing this quickly, quietly, and safely. By the time you have done this 25-30 times, it is a breeze. I actually enjoy putting my stand up each time and it is not a dreaded chore for me. I always use a linesmans belt. I only hunted private property and could have had the lands saturated with stands. I hunted 3 different properties. The only other alternative method I considered is to have about 10 ladder stands for every 30 acre timber I hunted. At $80 a pop for each stand and that is $2400 for enough ladder stands for 3 properties. I then need padlocks and cables for each of the stands and this brings the cost to an additional $450. Roughly $3,000 to really do it right. I would then still bring in my hangon and at least one climbing stick so that I could get additional height as 16' is too low for me. The ladder stands are a lot of work to get out to the woods, but they don't need brought in each year and make a nice safe way to get into the stand. They are also heavy and thieves are not so likely to steal them. I still stand by my statement that a climber is too tree specific and will not work on the variety of trees that my setup will. They do have their place though.
