Ha Ha , I thought you was going to say because you live in NM now, and could only find 10 trees to hang it in .
Here is some NM pics for you. Where do you think the biggest elk in the world are; certainly not MI. Touche.

It takes me about an hour just to walk in to most of my hunting locations so when I get there,I want quick and easy.

you also forgot take down time but i won't factor that into this if you want to just double what i come up with.

15 minutes per hunt
100 hunts per year
1500 minutes wasted on each stand setup per year
=25 hours " "
approx life of a safe permanent home made stand 5-7 years
175 hours for hunting in 5 years
100 permanent stand is more than enough for any acrage of land (except public)
time to setup permanent stand for me - about 15 min. or 50 stands for 30 minutes each.
=1500 minutes/ 25 hours wasted one year and none for the rest of the life of the stands about 5 years
alot less sweat and alot more stealth i'd say especially when you can put your stands up in the offseason

i can understand this for public land but i'm gonna stick with permanent treestands for now.

I tag out every year with my (6) fixed. I wouldn't move them, or hunt any other propertyuntil I run out of deer, and that "ain't" likely before I go.

I know me too we have 35 on a 120 acre parcel and 10 on a 40 acre parcel and i tagged out before i visited all of them. Also some stands don't need to be moved. We have one that has produced a 140+ deer 4 out of 6 years we only hunt it maybe 3 days during peak rut but does it ever produce and withuot a deer knowing it. Besides most deer only live to maybe 4-5 years longer if ur lucky.

I've never had a problem finding a good tree for my climber. If that what makes you happy go for it.

Wow nice pictures of your wife on your myspace page.

I just dont see one single plus to use this "portable" ladder and stand combo. Maneuverability? A climber and minimal searching always produces a suitable tree. Not educating the deer? See previous. Ease of tree selection? Not worth the effort imo. I have fixed stands set up in some of my spots and the effortlessness of just walking in and climbing up is awesome. If I have to move them once or twice during the season, its better than every time I want to hunt. In season scouting/hunting is more than adequately accomplished quietly and with minimal education to the deer with my climber. But to each his own. I guess if you have a system it might not be as bad as it seems.

I use bloth climbers and lock ons but I have to say I especially agreewith #1 and 8. I can use sticks and a lock on in many more trees/set upsthan I ever could with a climber.
