Many a deer live on 3 legs. If itlives from the infection, it may just be fine. I haven't seen it, you have.

If it has any chance of recovery, I'd have to let nature run it's course.

It is clear that the infection is up into the hip area as well as it is all shrunken in and shrivelled up. My father is a physician and his opinion was that the bone got infected and it is spreading through her body now. He said that they couldn't save a human with all modern medicine at this point. Obviously, that is just an opinion based off of a picture and not an examination.

I would call the DNR, although I know what the PGC's answer would be, and that would be, "It's not deer season, if you shoot a deer out of season and are caught you will be prosecuted. By the way, where did you say this was occuring?"

With that said I would let nature take its course as sad as it is for that animal. We are not God and shouldn't play God. That deer's end of days may mean the survival of a family of fox, or racoon, or other creature.

I'd personally let nature take its course most likely.

If I for some reason didn't think this was the best thing and felt I had to take action on it, the last thing I would do is post about it on the internet and/or tell anyone. ;)

You should agree... you're bound to a higher set of laws....[8D] and you're absolutely right. Unfortunately for the injured animal, that's the only right way that I can see to handle it.

No reason to be a poacher. Let well enough alone. Animal kingdom has its set of rules, and works well, if humans can stay out of it.

It is a hard thing to do. The only reason that i have ever shot a deer out of seasonwithout the proper permits was because i hit it with my truck and i was the cause of its injury. I would have to say just let survival of the fittest run its course.

Absolutely no brainer for me, in less time than it takes to post this, she'd be put out of her misery -no more suffering. You guys think too much. Read the bible and study about the Pharisees, they also took the letter of the law too seriously and were chastised for it.
