Gee I dunno sounds like a pretty good deal to me. You become friends with just one guy and your managing 280+ acres..Plus they have a minumum in place already. You can't have too many spots can you??

Hard for me to say really. Everywhere I hunt now I have to share with a few others who gained permission the last few years. Its killing me because I do not see the amount of nice bucks I used to have to myself. 146 acres to yourself is not a bad deal.

$700 a year? That would be my cost.
Heck, i got a call the other day and a guy said that i could hunt on anywhere on his propetry (over 2000 acres) rfor hogs and he said i could hunt on 200 of it for deer and turkey also, FOR FREE. I think i would have said no too. thats rediculous

2200 acres is allot of woods. Who says you would all be out there at the same time?
Doesn't matter who else is out there, Schultzy. You are relegated to YOUR area.
I think Rick James quoted 146 acres per hunter, thats allot. What I meant by what I said is that not everyone will be in there 146 acre patch to screw you up scent wise when your out hunting. Obviously the more people in the woods at the same time sucks but I'm sure there will be times when only a few of you will be out that particular day. I'm assuming the 2200 acres is one solid big chunk and its split up in parts.

And during bow season, how many people would even be within 600-700 yards of you?

I hunt Illinois Jeff. A vast majority of the state is private lands. Small farms of usually about 40-80 acres in size.

What I've learned while hunting these small tracts. Most, like 95%, of the hunters around me are not that good at hunting a mature whitetail.

If you hunt smart.. and hunt correctly.. that "bottom of the barrel" piece may be on heck of a place to kill a good buck.

Just my opinion.

Largest deer killed in there ever....is 131". I think the largest last year was 121". So when I tell you a 100" deer is a good deer, here....believe it.

I'm re-thinking.....though......I am.

I'd say $700 for you own 146 acre area is very good. Did you say no before looking the area over? Is that for the entire year?
