If its illegal, don't do it. Why would you want to risk paying a fine or even worse losing your hunting license

ORIGINAL: GMMAT

I replenish mine about every 3-4 months sometimes more in the Spring. I use Trace minerals, rock salt and Dicalcium Phosphate.
What exactly are trace minerals? Are they available at a feed store? I'm thinking of starting my own mineral sites this year and want to get the most out of them.

BTW, I am in the SR area of PA where baiting is legal, so minerals are as well.

Yep....you can buy them at tractor supply. Check in the cattle feed section.

Thanks guys. I think Agway should have it, but I'll have to check to make sure. I plan on setting up mineral sites on a number of properties and then using game cams later to see what is hitting them. If they are effective I'll keep up with them each year, because I know they are beneficial to bucks and does alike.

i dont use the blocks. i beleive it breaks and hurts the deers teeth. they are not supposed to be eating hard substances. they dont got top teeth just on the bottom how can they chew a peice of the block thats so hard???

di-cal, trace, rock. its the cheapest mineral lick money can buy and it works.

as for the not feedin or puttin mineral out in NY. either the conservation people there are very smart (not to spead CWD) or really stupid.

huntingbry,
if there are nonatural salt/mineral licks in your state, they deer wont react the way you would think to your mineral lick. now if PA is like MO, where theres no natural salt or minerals. you will have deer comming from miles around. they fein for salt and minerals. and remember they never forget where its at! so when momma doe and her 2 button bucks come and eats the minerals the 1st year. those bucks will come back every year!!
