I would never have taken a shot over 30 yards with my old bow but this new was has certainly got me thinking. I am very comfortable at 30 and getting there at 40. 50 and 60 is a bit much unless the weather is perfect. Can't wait to practice more at those distances when it warms up.

I like to use two pins----20 and 30 yards. My bow isn't the fastest so it doesn't just rise or lower by one inch if I am off, but rather a couple of inches. I don't like to be off by that much if I mess up so I use two pins. But this post has me thinking about only using one pin..I have thought about it but never done it.

I shoot one pin also an the only down fall is if by chance you break that pin well you know the rest. I have one pin at the very bottom of my sights an an allen wrench.

Well I shoot an 05 allegiance and perhaps it "slow" by todays standards hiigh 270 fps as a hunting rig.

I guess I'll be the one voice switching from a 1 pin HHA to a multi-pin site (actually a 6 Pin copper John)

The HHA was nice I used it a few years, but last year I decided I didn't like having to move the site while a deer was coming in. It's just another hassle you don't need at crunch time. (in my opinion). If I'm unsure of yardage let me hit'em with the range finder settle on a pin and let fly. Not hit'em with the range finder loosen my site set it on the line...is that the right line?? Tighten it up and shoot. (and ya I know they can take 1 shot while loose)

anyhow... so I'll be the first with a Con. Nothing harsh just personal preference.

I guess it's just whatever you get used to.

Here's a "con".

I shot my '08 8-pointer "initially" at 20 yds. I spined this deer and he went down, hard. he got back to 2 feet and began trying to leave. I loosed another arrow at about 26-28 yds. Miss. I loosed another at what i figured to be 35-40 yds. Hit. I shot him for the last time when he was stationary but at a distance I figured at 50 yds. Hit.

I couldn't imagine all the things going through my head if I only had one pin.

Jeff, you make a good point....but really......once you get used to it, it really is NO more complicated than deciding what pin to use....

I mean, you gotta decide what pin to use, then make sure you use it....there really is no more going on, but what is going on is a different thought....Not what pin to use, but rather, where to move it to.....same/same....

Mo.....I think a one pin is probably great in 95% (completely made up percentage!) of all hunting scenarios......I just had one of the 5% occur, last season.

Tell me this......Honestly....

I got 4 shots off in less than 20 seconds.....hitting my mark 3 times in that span. Could you do this.....moving your sight?

If you can.......then I have NO ISSUES with the thing. None. Like I said....it's just whatever you get used to. I'm sure you're (and most using theirs) FULLY competent with your equipment. Fully.

Exactly!! I made the switch to one pin. Then I went back tomulti-pinsand back to Single pin. No more Multi pins for me. Moving a pin soon becomes second nature.

Jeff, I got off 3 last fall, and hit him all 3 times.....but....I didn't have to move the pin. Like I said, I keep it set at 25 yards.....20-30 don't make a hill of beans difference....put it on him and let it fly.....what's an inch or an inch and a half when we're talking about vitals the size of a pie plate??

Like I said.....there's no more going on than w/ multiple pins. I've killed deer w/ both, it's just a different thought process.
