i have two ir cam's and i also have photos of them looking at it. but i feel it's more of a filter noise than flash

He may have picked up your scent on the camera. I wouldn't be too quick to draw any conclusion.

it all depends on the situation, simple as that. I ahve had a buck (MATURE) that would score 160 or so and he just hung around my camera all night, didn't even care, then I have had some gobonkers when they see a falsh, I just think it depends on the buck and the factors that surround it.

Mystigue? Jeff, weren't you the guy who went on and on about how mature bucks are "different" Didn't you nickname "your" buck "The Bull" I'm sorry but you seem hypocritical here.

Face it your experience is limited in comparison. You have had success in your first two years......congrats. Consistently killing mature whitetails you have not done.Not many have. Greg has.

No, deer hunting is not rocket science, but it also is not what you make it out to be in many cases. If it's no that challenging to you anymore.....after 2 years........whyare you still hunting with $1,000+ state of the art equiptment? Why not take a step back an challenge yourself? Go traditional? Hunt from the ground?

As for the thread, it appears that Mature Bucks do get spooked even with IR. I think Greg's method makesa lot of sense.

Gus I'm simply tired of my "perceived" lack of "experience" being thrown in my face every time I have a differing opinion (that's usually backed by facts) on ANYTHING to do with bowhunting. Gotta admit I get that a lot from a few.

NO. Hunting mature bucks isn't "easy".......but it's NOT rocket science. I'm not tooting my horn in ANY fashion. I'm doing QUITE the opposite if you look at it, objectively. The two years I've been hunting is constantly thrown in my face......but how have I taken two of these creatures as such an inexperienced newbie if it's so hard? Can't have it both ways.....and it just gets old time after time.

Either it's an accomplishment.....or itisn't. I don't care which waypeople look at it......but you can't have it both ways. Easy? OK.....I can live with that. Accomplishment? I canlive with that, too. Matters not, to me.

Oh....and BTW....I WILL take a deer with traditional equipment this fall before my compound ever sees the woods. Part of challenging myself.;)

Yes you can, on my cudde no flash I could set the times I wanted it to be active. It's called a time lapse mode.

Do you like your cuddy back? I look at one at the deer show that had a bulit in LCD color screen for about the same price.

2 years of experience in the deer woods is just that.......2 years. Just like anything else in life it takes time to see the entire picture. Success in your first two years is one thing. Being successful for 10-15 years is another that's all. Honestly Jeff, you bring a lot of this on yourself.I killed my first mature buck when I was 15, but I learn more about whitetail behavior when I havehad slow seasonsraking and scrapingjust to get a glimpse of one.


Who knows? Luck? Untouched area? Hard work? Skill? There could be a number of reasons. 2 years imo is not long enough time to determine one or discredit another. That's my point.


An accomplishment...yes. Easy.....no. 2 years is still not a guage either way.

Great. I hope to do the same thing one day. I've been at this for 17 years and I still have a lot to learn before I feel comfortable making the switch;).
