The huntin here in NE. in Sept. can be pretty slow if the weather is still pretty hot!
If you are huntin some unpressured deer you will no doubt see some....mostly does and basket racked 1 1/2 yr. olds.
The big boys are not likely to show up until late Oct. just like most places around the country, the best huntin is close to the rut!
I have never taken a "good" buck that early but,I do know several guys that have. There is always that chance, because they ARE here!
If you want to see a sample of some nice Bucks taken in NE. check out the photo gallery on my website, all of the Whitetail bucks on that page were taken in NE.

Where in Nebraskey Aussie?? My brother and I have been talking about taking my dad's motorhome out to bowhunt Custer county this year. I have a lot of relatives in the Broken Bow area and we could combine a Hunt with a visit!( I love it when that happens<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>) I think it's predominatly whitetail, but I think they have a few Muleys as well.

Stealthman, when's the rut dates usually out there??

The prerut is starting to get going by the last of Oct.& 1st of Nov.
I think the peak is around the 15th of Nov. give or take a little bit.
I take the week before rifle season off every year and hit it hard, rifle season starts on the 15th this year!
If I were going to hunt here and only had 1 week to do it,it would be the week before the &quot;rifle boys&quot; are turned loose!

If I go it'll have to be earlier...The 15th is the gun opener here too and I have the same plan as you...hit it hard befor the lead flies!
