Default field tip question.....

WHY do some 3D and target orgs./venues require archers to shoot screw in points?

Just curious.

I would imagine so that a bad glue job (fletch glue for the tip)doesn't come off in the target. That would be bad for the arrow tips that hit it.

Bruce...I figured that....but wouldn't there be just as good a chance of getting a bad glue job on an insert?

Not always, some are just pressed in.

Makes sense and has actually happened to me (insert came out)which is why I epoxy my inserts now. I can't think of any other logical reason though. Hopefully someone in the know will enlighten us.

The only reason I can think of is because mostly this rule is only in effect for bowhunter classes, they are trying to keep the equipment as much "bowhunter as they can". I've neer seen a glue in broadhead.

Anyway, I think it's a stupid rule too.

Easton makes NIB points (lots of surface area contacting inside the shaft) and they will stay in better than any insert. I think it is to keep the bowhunter class in line and not making their arrows too light. I think this rule should be changed.
