I didn't say happy....I said rich. $Money$ wise ;)

One of my favorite quotes....'You say that money isn't everything.....well I'd like to see you live with out it.'

I used to run 4 dealerships as a fixed operations manager ... made TONS of $ ,,,,, now that I have given my life over to the one I love, Christ ... I am even happier with WAYYYYY less money ....... so if rich means just money to you, then I'll give you that one ;)But I look at being rich as having lots of something ..... oh,and by the way ...... money isn't everything...:)

Jeff, I totally agree with you .... it's nuts to me .... the more you're open to leagues and for business, the more the oportunity to make sales and gain customers
Perfect....you just answered GMMAT's question. Why wouldn't the shop owner have an indoor league???? Becuase being happy & spending time with his family/other hobbies means more to him than the money earned from an indoor league. Now that wasn't that hard...;) (and you said you agreed with GMMAT....so you either lied to me or lied to GMMAT [:'(])

What's that saying; "Don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes."? Everyone wants to know why I don't open my own shop and this thread is a good reason. If my business plan doesn't agree with your ideas of what you want I'm all of a sudden lazy? If you're business plan is so great then by all means, put it into practice. It's a simple cost benefit analysis and if the benefits (increased income, more friends, good times, job satisfaction) don't outweigh the costs (expenses, paperwork, reduced free time, increased labor, increased stress) it ain't going to fly. It's that simple. I don't have an archery shop because I like to hunt and enjoy vacationing now and then. Does that make me lazy as well?

Then he shouldn't be a shop owner, Kurt ....... unless he likes not putting his all into what he does and enjoys being mediocre ....

I don't know how you can get off saying that. If he manages a successfull shop, and is happy (refer to your post above)...then by all means he should a shop owner.

If a plumber don't take a call on a Sunday, then he shouldn'town his own company. If a 'one-man-band' painter, turns down an a job to painta whole school, then he shouldn't own his company. If a residential electrician turns down a job to wire a 15 story hotel, then he shouldn't own the company. Is it starting to make sense.

Your totally contradicting yourself. You claim being happy is the main thing in life.....then fire back saying the guy shouldn't own a mediocres shop (even if he is happy). Talk sense.

Your right ... my apologies! That WAS judgemental ... I didn't mean it that way ... I was thinking about what we were talking about before ... if he lost his desire ....when people lose their heart for something, it suffers ...... again, after re-reading my last post, I see what you mean ... and I am sorry

Well since the Preacher summonded me:D

11 months into my new life as an archery shop owner.

Big pay cut, big debt, big, well let's say adventure!
I like to do fun things for a living and am having fun running Double Lung Archery
Eventually, yes, I plan to make money doing it.
Business gets a little better each month.
Yes, it takes a toll on your personal life, just like any sales profession.

Leagues help! I run them all year long. Some are pretty full, others are pretty slim.

The current leagues, which I run on Tuesday and Thursday nights have a total of 25 shooters @ 10.00 per week
250.00 per week sure helps.

I wouldn't even consider not having leagues and plan to add some spot leagues and another kids league if there is enough interest.

We are going to do another "Cedar Valley Shop Challenge" shoot in March and this will will have teams from 5 shops if everyone wants to get on board. That will be another 25 shooters

I do not hire any extra help to run them. I get people to do the scoring as a favor and some freebies.

I have no employees besides me

I am not lazy:D

Last night when the windchill was -35 here, I think my league shooters liked having a warm place to shoot!

I have to go home now, it is my only early night. Weds nights I get to actually have dinner with my wife.

I'd just like to not have to take time away from work.....like going to a dentist appointment....JUST to shoot at my shop's range.

Call me crazy.
