RE: If you owned a shop........
I guess if you look at opening the doors of the businessYOU CHOSE TO MAKE A LIVING ATas a"hassle"....then"No"....I don't suppose it would be worth it. I look at it not much different than my job. I choose my job (by going to college) and I enjoy it....as I have no desire to leave. There is always an opportunity for me to take side work home for additional salary, but I rarely choose to do so. Once I factor in my extra hours (which I figure 1 1/2x for hours over 40), plus what I get taxed, plus time away from my family, plus working until 10:00 each night....I just don't find it worth it. I would rather referee a basketball game for $45, or work on a shoulder mount (taxidermy) for an extra $300. Just because you own an archery shop doesn't mean you aren't allowed to have other hobbies or enjoy other things other than archery. |
RE: If you owned a shop........
No health insurance??
Hmmm....I don't think that's how I'd like to make my money...but to each his own. Well You're still going to find it difficult to hire reliable help for under $100.00 a week. |
RE: If you owned a shop........
I haven't read all of the repiles.
For the record..I haven't ownen my own business. YET But for sake of argument. My best friend does. He owns a heating and air company. My ex also does. She runs her family's hospice company. Both companies are very successfulas far as income, but both have takenmajor tollson family, friends, and relationships. My best friend has even talked ofgetting out of the business. The only reason he hasn't is b/c he knows that it would break his father's heart because his fatherfounded the company from a pile of dirt. Running your own business takes A LOT out on a person. Esp. if you are trying to juggle the business and time for your family, friends, and your own hobbies other than the business. You have a great point, but if I had to answeryour question for most shop owners itwouldprobably be because of time, money, and liability. |

RE: If you owned a shop........
The shop I use is open 6 days a week in the off season, 7 days a week during the season. 40 yard indoor range, 40 yard elevated indoor range, 25 yard video range, 15 yard tech range, around 30 - 3d targets outdoors in the woods and a bar! This place is a good as it gets! They also have leagues 4 nights a week, 2 different time slots and a video league 4 days a week. Can you say GOLD MINE!;)

RE: If you owned a shop........
Owning your own business takes dedication to it .... period. Most people want to do what they want to do and aren't willing to sacrifice to make things go .... that's why most small businesses fail ... not for bad ideas, but for lack of character and love for what your doing .... as far as family, involve them in it ...... Most leagues in my area just get by. By they time they pay for rent, targets, bills, etc....they have just enough money to keep the doors open...and all work is volunteer. |
RE: If you owned a shop........
I agree I wish they had something around here like that where I live, it would be something fun to get into during the off season. If anybody in the Oklahoma City area knows of a leauge please let me know.
