Default Dr Kroll "The next 25 years"

Anyone read "The Next 25 Years" by Dr. James Kroll in the recent N.A.W.?

If not you should, great read.

Couple great points

"For too long, we have mismanaged whitetail herds to maximize "hunter opportunity."

"Looking ahead...this will require a change in attitude, by both landowners and state agencies. State DNR's will have to become facilitators rather than regulators..."

This is just info on a good article IMO. Read it if you want.

Agreed. The IDNR does not have as much say as they once did. State legislators now make decisions based on how much money flows through the state via outfitters, license and permit sales, tourism, etc. It once was well managed, but now the elected officials think they know better than wildlife biologists. Same old politics as usual here in Illinois.[:@]

Sorry, off topic so carry on.

What other reason would we manage them for?

Biggest line of BS in the sport............no one cares about the "overall health of the herd"

The states want the numbers controlled........period.

Hunters want bigger racked bucks and more of them.........period.

Just wondering...........we both live in NY..........Do you think our herd is "healthy"??.........and if not why??
