25 years ago would have been 1983. I started bowhunting in 1979, I guess I should feel lucky that I was forced to attend a Bowhunter Education Class even back then before getting a license.

Not a shot I would take on purpose...I have however hit a deer in the butt with a broadhead. Took him around 25 minutes to die a slow death....he bled like hell but I could see him walking, laying, and thrashing around for nearly 25 minutes within 45 yards of my stand. I couldnt shoot him again and I felt helpless in my effort to end his suffering. Not something I would ever recommend and I hope I never do again in my hunting life.

Absolutlely not!! That is a good way to get the antis the fuel they need. I know that a bad shot happens on accident, but to shoot a deer in the rear on purpose?? Come on, noone should even think about that.

I HAVE TO ADMIT, WHEN I FIRST STARTED BOW HUNTING 10YRS AGO, I DID HIT A DOE IN THE REAR AND SHE DROPPED AFTER 30YARDS. WASN'T A GOOD SHOT BACK THEN. I WAS TRYING FOR A LUNG SHOT. I WOULDN'T EVER DO IT ON PURPOSE. I THINK IT WAS MY THIRD DEER EVER. MY HUNTING BUDDIES ROAD ME FOREVER OVER IT. MUCH BETTER SHOT NOW.

I have seen it work and I have seen it fail, butI won't take that shot. About ten years ago I shot a very nice 8 point. Just as I released the arrow, the bucklunged forward and the arrow sunk into his hind quarter. Never could find that deer, blood trail stopped 200 yards out. A guy I know shot the same deer during gun season, the broadhead lodged in the hind quarter and healed over pretty good. So that shot doesn't always work.

I would not do it on purpose unless I was DESPERATE for meat. I have shot deer through the hindquarters by accident that died quickly. For me the bottom line is IT'S YOUR DEER. Shoot itwhere ever YOU want to! I don't care to clean up gut shot deer myself.
