RE: New spin on 3D...possible new format?
ORIGINAL: M.Hensler/PA RJ, Yeah, I knew your camp isn't that far (it's in Bradford, right?) My sister teaches in Canton (getting up towards you there). You're definitely not too far. If I can get my bow fixed and tuned up a little bit (I'm still needing new strings, and would like a new release, I definitely would be interested in doing an indoor shoot even though I would make a foold of myself:D PAHardwoods, I would be up for a group 3D HNI shoot for sure. Just name the place and time (preferably sometime in the summer). Bob, Rules are definitely a big consideration as is liability. I know when I was more active in our offroading club, we had to sign individual waivers to clear the Club from responsibility, but I'm not sure what legal components there are to make those waivers hold in court (fran, where are you?;)). Scoring would follow a format mentioned by gundeck. You have "time to beat" set by the leader, and you simply deduct an X amount of points for each second/minute past that time from the overal shot score. You wouldn't necessarily have to run, but walk briskly, and hike some (the more hilly/rocky the terrain, the better:D). There could even be a handicap to encourage the older members to participate :D...just kidding, I know plenty of "older" guys that would keep up with many of the young guys just fine. Schultzy, Good points. Really that's why I doubt it would ever take off. Most people see competitive archery as a test of mental concentration mixed with physical development (which in a sense, it is). This would just be a different version...more extreme if you will;) |
RE: New spin on 3D...possible new format?
I'd do it but adding the fitness part of it nocks out the majority of shooters that I've seen.;)[8D] I love the idea as well. What I like the most about it is that it is a fresh, new idea. There aren't a bunch of guys who have already figured out some system to get the best scores. It goes back somewhat more to relying on an unknown element rather than justa tediously developed setup and good yardage-judging skills. Count me in if you get something together up at your place this summer Rob. You aren't that far away and with the summer off I am sure I could swing it (just not the last week of July/first week in August as I will be in Disney. ;)) |
RE: New spin on 3D...possible new format?
That is kind of similar to a 3D pop up course. The targets pops up in front of you for just a moment and you have to make the shot. Some of the targets are moving too. I always wanted to try that but those shoots are hard to find. As far as running around a 3D course, I thinkI will sit that out, not because I am out of shape it just doesn't appeal to me (I'm not that bored).

And for the folks who take forever shooting these shoots, leave your range finders at home and learn your yardages with out them. That would be different! (I haven't been to one yet that does) Do these exist? |

RE: New spin on 3D...possible new format?
Well there ya go.
Kinda takes the advantage away from the hardcore 3D'ers, though, huh? Good spot man can kill ya if he knows the yardages????????? To me.....guessing the yardage is the tough part. You can put a dead nuts shot on the animal.....but if you have the wrong yardage......it ain't gonna matter. Interesting! Oh yeah...Matt...i found a 11.5" CE Doinker that'll be here, tomorrow. the guys are just gonna have to laugh at my silver.;) And if you guys get something up for PA in the summer.....I'll likely make the drive. Sounds like fun. |

No binos? So you get the yardages given to you....but you can't use binos?
This 3D thing is weird!:D |
