RE: To Add to Atlas Thread/Direction for your state

Not many weighing in from WI here.... I feel very strongly:

1. Issue everyone a permanent plastic card with magnetic or digital capability, and all your license info is on there. Like a credit card. Wardens would have a card reader, (they already have a computer in their car anyway) deer check stations would have a card reader.... Do away with the stupid back tags!!@!!, paper licenses, stupid cumbersome registration.... hello its the 20th century.

2. Condense the management units. By about 30%.

3. Permanent statewide AR, 4 pt., no exceptions, 1 buck per person per year period. No EAB ever, period.

4. Stop having separate tags for gun and bow. Have one deer license, you can hunt either or both seasons/weapons, but only one buck and does as allowed. Pay one time for deer license, then kill as many as you want or are allowed. No extra fees for doe tags, just bag limits per management unit. No field carcass tags, just your plastic card, tag em at reg station with a readable adhesive tag like at grocery store.

5. Nix the whole CWD program. They've had CWD out west for 20+ years, hasn't affected their hunting at all.

6. Use the money saved for enforcement.

7. Ban all baiting and feeding forever, period.

I definitely see your point about it only hurts the law abiders, but how do you have long term proof that the deer was legal?
In Va your given a confirmation number when you call it in, just right it on your tag it's your "metal tag". You give them info on where when and what it was including rack size. There's a record and taxidermists do get in deep trouble if they don't have proper records. They are checked just like here. I was check by some girl in Ohio this year who wouldn't even touch the deer, she handed me the metal tag and walked away. I didn't have to put it on then, did I and who says you have to use the one given for the deer it goes too?

Until you've experiencedphoning inyou just don't know how pleasant it is.

They're watching ya.:DThey only knew because you checked it. What would have been the difference if you called it in and gave them the same info? In Va it's computorized. Let them put that phone answering automation to some good use for a change.:D

I love how KY is ran. Bow Season is from Sept 03to Jan 21. One buck limit. Up tofour does, some counties unlimited.

Only two complaints i can think of is:

1. Rifle Season is 3 weeks long
2. Rifle Season couldn't fall more perfectly in the prime rut

I am a rifle hunter as well, so this would effect me just the same as the next guy.

I think we got 3 already including myself

Great idea

2. Condense the management units. By about 30%.
Agreed. Even better, keep things simple and divide DMU's by county

4. Stop having separate tags for gun and bow. Have one deer license, you can hunt either or both seasons/weapons, but only one buck and does as allowed. Pay one time for deer license, then kill as many as you want or are allowed. No extra fees for doe tags, just bag limits per management unit.
The state will never do this because they'd be losing lots of money unless they combined the cost of the bow and gun licenses i.e. 24+24=48 then they'd have to factor in the average doe tags purchased each year. You now have a license that's 60-70 bucks for resident and probably 200 for non-resident. It'll only discourage people and probably result in more poaching. I think you should pay for what you want toget.

5. Nix the whole CWD program. They've had CWD out west for 20+ years, hasn't affected their hunting at all.
agreed with doing away with disease eradicationattempts. $30+million and counting. Results - 0 and counting

7. Ban all baiting and feeding forever, period.
agreed also, but will neverhappen.

WV here. allow sunday hunting, maybe an earlier start to bow season. No other changes needed. Hunting here is fun, thats what is supposed to be, not a trophy contest.

New York. Shorten the firearms season which including muzzleloader is close to a month,3 weeks rifle or shotgun and 1 week muzzleloader,to at least half of that.Impose a one buck only rule all weapons.
There is so much law breaking going on right now that it is way beyond incidental, the antler restrictions that are in place in some units are being ignored.Enforcement is a joke, purely because the Co's are so under staffed. The laws have to have enough bite in them to scare people straight.
There are some units that are over run with doe's and some like the high peaks area's where having a doe tag is no guarantee of being able to kill one,so I don't knowthat there is an across the board method that will get the job done for all units.
