Ask the forum what their definition of a "mature buck" is. I'm betting the overall consensus is......."most" will say that a buck's age af maturity starts at 3.5yrs.

Why would I ask anybody for a definition of a mature buck? I think that I have that down pretty good.

You know Rob......this is a good example of why I get frustrated when people post up "absolutes"......ESPECIALLY when there's no way on earth they can be proved OR disproved.
There are so many examples of this .......most every day....on this site. There are SO many myths out there about "big bucks this"....or "mature bucks that".....that simply can't be proved.
I think we can learn the deer WE hunt.....in our hunting grounds. We can pattern them.....study them....observe them....and all we've really done is know THEM. What the deer in someone else's woods are doing.....I wouldn't hazard a guess to. Nor would I pretend to be able to make a blanket statement about them.

Then you come on here and post this......... especially the "Einstein" comment in bold.......... how profound![:-]
Here you are, a beginning bow hunter, spouting off about what frustrates you. Take heart ........ all beginners get frustrated. However, most of them don't continually make post after post making them come off as a know- it -all expert. It's reminiscent of a 6th grader trying to be an adult. Very irritating.
You need to grow and stop whining, then people will start to listen to you and stop ignoring you.

I say the same ...........3 1/2 would be a mature buck. I just didn't see any in your pics.
)
It's funny, you're the only one to post an absolute........Myth busted.
)...the mythn I was busting....was the "Absolute" that "mature bucks" are spooked by the camera. And I posted photographic evidence that they weren't.
Everyone else posted what their experiences were on their own ground.

They were both jawbone aged.
Here's how I might know a little about the two deer in the last photo (the 3.5 yr olds) I posted. Note one of them is 4.5 yrs old when I'n holding him.....but they were both 3.5 in the last pic

Cancel the smell factor, I froze the video on certain spots and the Cam indeed scared it off.
Thanks for sharing that and probably saved me some cash.
I found it strange how all of a sudden he just turns and comes right up to it like he did.

I have a great buck feeding in my yard every night 140-150 class 10 point that after ten days I gave up on getting his picture, he knows that the camera is not his friend. Before I get told deer aren't smart enough to avoid cameras forget it I`watched him circle it every night.

I have a friend who put a Wildlife Eye out on a food plot that contains a camera as well. They did this because they had ONE picture of a mature buck and never got another one.
The Wildlife Eye showed that the buck would enter the food plot in the same spot, walk across and deliberately GO AROUND the still camera. He avoided it every time.
It's a major factor why many of us only get a single picture of a good buck, not all bucks as I stated, I have one that stood for a whole series, even almost looked like he was inquisitive about the camera, again a 35mm so it made noise as well as flashed, other deer......snap, gone!
