Where is your middle ground

I am for shoot one buck and liberal doe permits. It really depends on where you hunt and your population. Here where I hunt in central Minnesota we have a good number of doe's but our bucks are averaging 1.5 in life expectancy! Thats terrible!

What ever is best based on hard facts. What I don't like are regs that punish the law abiding just because of the lawless. We have to check in whole deer because someone might poach.

This is definatley a management decision best left to the professionals. I live in Illinois and personally think the IDNR has done an outstanding job at tweaking the laws over the years to produce the best deer hunting anywhere. I've seen it go from a 1 buck limit to no limit back to 2 buck limit in place now. The size of the bucks I'm seeing now versus 10 years ago is unbelievable. What they are trying to do now is harvest more does in my area. Some areas have antler restrictions which make for a "trophy" area but these areas are more heavily hunted I think. My area is public ground and needs no antler restriction as far as I can see. Kudos to the IDNR! Some people will cuss them, but then again you can't please all the people all the time!

I voted for the last choice, you shoot what you want as long as it is legal. Like Schultzy... it really depends on your area but also how the Game & Fish Department manage the deer population.
We don't need a manditory antler restriction with our Lottery System. We actually have adecent aged buck population. Alot of hunters are holding out for older bucks. Granted it is 2.5 and 3.5 year olds now verses 1.5 year olds when I first came. You sure can't complain. Manditory antler restrictions basically protect 1.5 year old bucks and not all of them. Nothing would really be gained byAR. A headache not needed if someone shot a spike or forky by accident which happens.
Our 2.5 weekGeneral Season is alottery drawfor bucks. Our state is broken up into manyunits and the buck tag is just for that unit. It isn't good state wide.
The 2.5 week Muzzle loading Season is lottery draw for bucks.Tags are also set upfor acertain unit, not statewide.
We can shoot all the does we want until theextraantlerless tags are used up which is set by the G & FDept. It is ona first come, first serve basis after thelottery drawings. You are not limited to the number you can buy. I could buy 1000's of extraantlerless tags until they are gone. [&:] These tags are also set up for a certain unit but I canbuy tagsin any unit.
Our archery tag is good for any deer ( resident ). Statewide.
As long as the Fish and Game Dept manage the deer population properly, which they are, we have it prettygood.

That's it Schultzy, if you can find the areas like ND that have up and coming big buck potential, then get in there earlybefore word gets out and youcould have a gold mine! Kind of like Pike county in Illinois, before the word got out. Monster bucks were pouring out of there. Now it's all locked up.
