No popcorn on this one. At 47-5 in favor of meat at this point... I'd say the verdict is already in.

Shooting young deer isn't unethical. Shooting just trophy's isn't unethical. Shooting doe's or fawns isn't unethical. There all ethical in my opinion! I'm a trophy hunter myself. I won't shoot ayoung buck for meat, i'll shoot a doe for that reason. If a person wants to shoot asmall buckfor meat, I have no problem with that, more power to them. That same person though better not be complaing that theres no big guys around!Taking stupid shots at animals, now thats totally unethical!!!!

How can one be more ethical than the other, they are both legal an are nothing more than a preference. If, you want meat shoot does. If you want a rack shoot a buck an get meat too.No need to shoot small bucks for meat alone. Think about the future.

I have known some guys that claim to be a buck hunter and won't shoot a doe.Thats fine, but they will shoot a basket buck first chance they get. Whats the difference between the doe and the small buck? The antlers!!

Think about how many times you have heard the phrase "it was just a doe"

Shoot whatever makes you happy as long as its legal. But don't try and pass yourself off as a "big bad buck hunter" Somebody already said it.....its a macho thing.

It is Ok to hunt big bucks BUT IMO it sucks when vegetarians do this or people whom do not/will not eat wild meat. If you dont like the way it tastes find a new hobby!

OK;here's my take on the subject.First of all we all live in a world where we really don't have to hunt for your food any longer and and if you use the old I hunt to put meat on the table line then your just full of it,with that said I do like the taste of deer and kill them becaue I want to not because I need to.This does not make me unethical,my personel preference is to shoot does( both young and old for meat and I tend to lean toward the smaller does when i am going for meat for myself) I choose to only shoot an older class of bucks, not necessarily trophies in everyones eyes but they do it for me and that is after all why I hunt for my enjoyment not others. If this makes me unethical in the eyes of others so be it I sleep good at night. As long as hunters kill in an human way and don't waste the meat and show respect for the animal then I have no problem with the way they choose to hunt and what they choose to kill. That is what makes hunting so great, some like the hunt, some just want the horns and some just want the meat and there is room for all of us to hunt the way we like as long as it is legal.Steve had some great remarks in his reply,if you shoot the young bucks then don't bitch about there not being any big boys around.Don't knock another hunter for shooting a legal deer either just because you might not happen to agree with his choice, we all have different views and they are not limited to hunting. If everyone was the same then we would only need one brand of bow, imagine that.

I cant stand people who waste deer Because they only wanted the Antlers off them.

Meat all the way.

ORIGINAL: rybohunter

Both/Neither.

Unless it is anuisance critter, if you shoot something you should eat it/use itor give it to someone who will, whether it carries some sort of trophy quality or not.

There. End of debate.
That just about sums it up for me.

This is a no brainer. Its more ethical to hunt an animal just for the meat. Now the question is how many do it
