Default What's a Grunt call that don't freeze?

I am having a awful time this year. Because it is sooo cold this early my calls all of them are pinning because they are freezing. I ended up keeping it in my handmuff but thats tough to access it quickly.

Primos buck roar , No good! Mad calls Buck growl, No good! Hs True talker, NO good! I need a good sounding inhale call any suggestions?

I use to have a old grunt call I am sorry to say I purchased from Noel Feather many moons ago. It was a GREAT sounding call. It was just a contact grunt call but it worked and sounded great. I can't find it anywhere and I can't even find one on ebay. Anyways what do you cold hunters use or tricks do you apply to this late season. I am way to bundled up to keep it inside my jacket like I have done in the past also.

I like the Knight and Hale Translator it has many different calls and sounds good on the older buck grunts for an inhale call!

Well realistically your calls are not failing do to design but maybe the way you are carrying them.
I use a HS True Talker. Best call to me period. But it is a blow through call. And it
can build up moisture like any other blow out call. I think this is a matter of where you
store the call between grunting. I keep mine inside my vest. Close to my chest. I pull
it out when I am ready to call and avoid freezing. If this isn't your problem, then I can't
figure out why yours should freeze up.

my true talker froze up on me this year...kinda cost me deer too...though i killed my buck that morning. i had one sneak through behind me and caught a glimps of antlers...hit the grunt tube as soon as he went behind a hemlock and got the begginning of a grunt and that was it. i was jacked...calling was very effective that weekend and was working well the previous evening and that morning...i was rattling and grunting and using the can...i found the grunts really helped...i put it inside my coat after the fact, but it never thawed out the next hour and a half or so till i killed mine...still tried rattling and using the can off and on though...i like to have it out for those times when they slip by and you want to get them back...

it was below 30 degrees that morning...

Posi-Call will not freeze. It was designed by a fella' Dave Macintire that worked with Rob Evans who was part of the True Talker. The wood brain is the key to help eliminate freezing. The calls that have plastic against the plastic reed are the ones which will squeel and choke up. Condensation collects between the brain/reed which causes the change in tone, or the elimination of tone.

The little black one about 3" long from Primos you can use as an inhale, Woods Wise out of Tn. also makes one that you can inhale, if Im not mistaken the Buck Grunter Plus that has a hands free mouth piece can be inhaled.
Man I have a inhale only hands free one that was hand made by someone in kansasthat has an awesome mature sound to it but the tag fell off it a long time ago so I cant help you with that one.I will try and post a picture of it on here tomorrow maybe someone will know more about it.
Wish I could help you more but I get mine for free and I keep it in my jacket like you said!

Try keeping your call in a pocket with a handwarmer. That should keep it nice and toasty.
