its your own life you are risking by not wearing one. obviously these stories are horrible to hear and we hear them year after year, so why dont people get the point and wear one? its your life not mine, but im wearing mine

I feel sorry for the man's family. Two years ago i fell 38 feet out of a climbing stand and i honestly do not know how im alive today and can still walk. I was one of these ppl. who thought he's bulletproof climbing trees and i would never fall....YEAH RIGHT I will tell you this, it happens in a blink of an eye and once you start falling your screwed, there's no catching surrounding treelimbs cause it happens just to fast. It was undoubtely the worst feeling i have ever felt (completely helpless). I climbed 30 ft up the tree which was beside an 8 ft. ditch that had maybe an inch of water in it and i was still facing the tree on a tree lounge and i sat down on the stand to lock it on the tree, then stood back up on the foot climber and all i remember is hearing the top part of the stand hitting the foot climber and i was immeadiately airborne. All you can hear is the air rushing by your ears like a jet flying by and thinking Oh Sh*t. Not good fellas, wear a safety harness. I should have died that day but im still hear for a reason, (still haven't found the reason). I had multiple fractures and got busted up pretty good and was out of work for over 3 months. But today im almost fine, my rt. ankle bothers me alot but i can walk fine for the most partso i feel very fortunate.
Don't think i can't happen to you, wear a safety belt for your family if for nothing else...

Weird how that works, eh?
I'm telling you guys: Hunting Insurance.
If we don't do somethingsoon - it's coming. Either big brother steps in and mandates that we all buy a $10 harness... Or, we each pay $100 a year for a $1 Million hunting policy to cover the gaps in our coverage. You pick.
Lots of people never thought we'd see the day for ATV insurance. Well, guess what?!?

Would anyone really be that upset if they had to show a harness to a DEC agent as part of any routine check?? Why is that so bad?? If they ask you to see your broadheads to make sure they are not barbed, and have the minimum cutting diameter you would show them right?? How much longer would it take to show your harness strap?? I just don't see it as a major inconvenience and especially when it could/would save lives.
Some people only want more legislation when it might provide them a shot at a bigger rack in the woods............but when it comes to saving another hunter's life we don't need anymore game laws?? C'mon guys..........where are our priorities??
I'm just sick of seeing other hunters die every year in a way that can be prevented so easily.

A lot of these guys do not where a belt because it might ruin there chance at a buck. I have no issue with a law, but it won't help. We have a seat belt law, and yet people still die from not wearing a belt[&:] We have piles of information about smoking, and yet people still start smoking in 2007[&:]
In Sept I had a youth hunter out in Ohio with me. He walk in without his headlamp on. I ask him why "I though a deer would see me" I ask is a deer worth your life? He got the point.
We can show video of guys falling, guys in wheel chairs can speak to kids. For some small % it will make no differnce.
I think it should be automatic man slaughter charge if you kill someone while hunting, for the life of me I cannot figure out how people shoot other people. First thing we learn "Know your target", yet every year we lose good people. Why? because Stupid people are every where and they're breeding[&:] Now I would be all for a law or a test to have children, now that would truly save lives IMO.
