I was hunting in Iowa once and got to my new hunting area late. I didn't have a stand in and found a good spot to set. There wasn't a very good tree to put my lock on tree stand in. I screwed in my steps and climb up the tree, hook my stand on and it was leaning downwards so I unhooked it and redone it, still wasn't right done it again and than pulled my bow up. I looked out in front of me and there was a big 8 point (130 inches) was walking right up the trail at about 25 yards. I quick pulled out a arrow and made a very good shot on him. He must not of never heard me putting up my stand up are seen me. The buck ran down the bluff and I heard him fall dead in the creek. I took my stand back down and walked down the bluff to get my deer. It was one of my shorter hunts, but I have had funnier things have happen to me out bowhunting.

Illinois huh?
My buddy shot a buck in Illinois one time where the deer came in while he was half way up the tree in his climber with him still part wayundressed..His hunting coat was still in his pack to avoid getting sweated up and he had one of those Star Trek type silver colored underwear shirts on as he's climbing the tree.
Long story short, Captain Kirk stops where he's at, pulls his bow up, retrieves his release from the pack, nocks an arrow and shoots the deer.
Game over.

Its not the way I do it. Ive had big bucks come snaking through the woods 10 feet from my tree before I pulled up my bow before, and I was using a realy loud climber too. I wouldnt trust my luck though.
