13. Members are to respect the designated TOPIC AREAS when posting their message. This includes off-topic and sales information that does not belong in the Main Forum area. Those who post messages not relating to the topic area, will have the threads closed or the posts deleted.
Right from the rules page. The mods and admin are fairly leniant on this one, presumable because they realize the comeraderie and sense of family in this forum. I realize this was brought up as a point of discussion, but....

5. No discussion or challenge to our editing policy are allowed within the forums. If you disagree, or want clarification as to why a particular topic, post or individual was removed, you must email [email protected]. HuntingNet.Com moderators, administrators and staff will NOT respond to any inquiries or challenges of these rules or decisions on the public forum. However, we will respond to email or private message inquiries.
Also from the rules page. The fact that they've allowed this thread to prosper is proof of their leniancy. I've obviously responded in this thread twice.....I just hope we aren't trying to make up our own rules. I don't think we are though.

I'm a newb to this forum, but it seems while the gun killed buck threads might not be bow related, they take up no more space than this one that also isn't related to bowhunting does.

Everybody's entitled to their opinion. In MINE....Post like Atlas's and GregH's (and KIDD's) are great, BECAUSEthese guys have been here for years....and have sort of "earned the right".

I was trying to think of a good analogy to why I originally posted this....and I couldn't think of one. But....looking at this from someone's perspective that never visits another forum here on HNI........I wouldn't be surprised if the gun kill threads didn't somehow "cheapen" their bowkills. I don't think anyone disagrees that taking a deer with a bow is MORE challenging (to what degree....I won't say having never gun hunted for deer).

I don't know......just seemed like it was happening more and more of late.

Personally, I would prefer to post a gun kill on the appropriate website, but that's justme. That being said, I don't mind seeing the pics occasionally, and really have no problem with other doing it.

There simply are more people viewing the bowhunting thread, so if you like to drive around with a rack sticking out of your truck it's the most logical choice.

The trail cam photo argument is lame in my opinion. When 99% of us post up a trail cam photo....we KNOW how that person intends to pursue that animal.

When I was moderating this site long ago (hence my sig line)it was a no no. Things change and you have to learn to accept change, here, in the workplace, at home etc etc. The moderating has become very lenient here of late for whatever reason. This stems from their inner acting with the forum members, nothing wrong with that but that is where it stems from. I know when I moderated if someone i befriended posted an off topic I would overlook it till someone complained, wrong? Yes, but if no complaint no foul right? If there was a complaint I would just move it where it belonged. Such an action would leave the topic threadin the original forum it was posted but would supply a link to the topic in the right forum and it would be locked. Simple solution.
With all that saidI think the gun kills should be in the "Deer Hunting" forum. Any such gun kill in this forum would link to that forum so everyone would have the option to read it anyway if they wanted. After all this is a Bow Hunting forumand not a democracy as stated so in rule 17.
So, as stated somewhere above in this reply I have no problem with it.

If you shoot a buck with a gun, just post on here that you posted the picture on the Gun/Deerhunting forum if you want to check it out. Then the gun deer would not be on the bow fourm and all would know to check it out on the gun forum. I don't care either way . The bow forum is a tight bunch of guys and gals mostly!!! Great people, Great Fourm!!!

ORIGINAL: GMMAT

We have an unusually high number of gun bucks being posted in the bowhuntng forum, thiis year. What's your opinion on this practice?
My opinion is that I have no opinion .... it is not my area to police, so I won't ...... I'll just let the Mods take care of it ..... it's their call ...... that being said, an opinion will still slip in every so often ...

Hey GMMat, why dont you just come out and say it outright instead of testing the waters first and then beating around the bush. You dont like it and you would like them moved to the appropriate forum. Dont get all upset at me, I have a thing about being candid.

How I see it.
I think they dont belong here. They should go to the other section, but the other section should be renamed blasting totally helpless deer at the maximum possible range so as not to "cheapen" anyone who might otherwise click the link thinking it was just deer hunting in general.

I hunt with everything to maximize my oppurtunity and I have yet to take one with a bow.

Hey Lub.....why don't you just let ME say exactly what I think????

I think a link to the deer hunting forum is a GREAT thing. I've been fortunate in that I have been lucky enough to take a good buck in each of the last two seasons. To someone who works their ass off bowhunting.....knowing they could have likely filled their tag with a gun numerous times.....to see bucks posted up in the same forum they would post their trophy, though.....I CAN see how it might "cheapen" their accomplishment.

It's my opinion.....and I could be totally wrong that people might feel this way. If I'm wrong....I'll say so.

I started this as a topic of discussion and intended to point a finger at NO ONE.
