With the cost of treated lumber. It's cheaper.....AND SAFER.... to buy a steel manufactured ladder stand.

I built one out of pressure treated woood i got free froma deck i toook down that was about 5 years old so the wood was in great shape. It get real heavy fast and the time it took to make it i think it would have been better to have bought one . I use it in my back yard and even then it was a struggle to get it there from my gararge

there it is in the back ground

I know a guy who made one that is closed in. Has enough room for a few people, sliding windows, and a heater. Even though he only shotgun hunts he gets some nice deer out of it. Not sure if I would won't to shoot a bow out of it,but surewould cut down on the snoring noise...Ha!

I have 4 of them that I have made out of 1" by 1" aluminum tubing. The first one that I did, I cut all of the pieces, and then took them to a guy that did aluminum welding. Had him weld the seat part, and the standing platform. Then I bolted everything together myself. I work in a bodyshop, so when I was all done, I painted them all up. The most expencive part was the welding, so after the first one, I just started bolting everything together. By the time I got done with them, I coiuld have went to Cabelas, and bought one for the same price, if not cheaper. But the best part about making my own, was that I could make them what ever size I wanted. I even made 1 of them so I coiuld flip up the seat, if I wanted to stand for a while.

You can buy a double ladder stand at BPro or Gander for $99. I was going to build my own but at those prices it is hard to justify doing it yourself. When it comes time to move it or disassmble they are really nice.

I have built many in my time and still hunt many of them and keep them fixed up but I won't build anymore simply because they are so cheap to buy. For example right now Dick's SG has 15ft aluminum ladderstands for $49.99, and it comes with a free safety harness, they also have decent hang-on stands clearanced for $29. You just can't beat that. Even places that are expensive usually have a couple of laddermodels for between $59 and $89. Sportsmans guide has 2 person stands for under $100 and 10-12 ft tripod stands with a swivel seat and rifle rest for $81. Now if I came across a bunch of free salt treated lumber I would probably make some but other than that it's not likely anymore.

The way im looking at it is who in their right minds is gonna steal this? Seriously if you think about it, why whould you want to lug something that big and that heavy through the woods to steal it?

my friend thought the same thing and some one took it we think it was a guy down the road that didn't like the idea of him hunting that land . he felt that he would be hunting the same animals that go on his land . he notified the police but they do close to nothing about it
