I have built many in my time and still hunt many of them and keep them fixed up but I won't build anymore simply because they are so cheap to buy. For example right now Dick's SG has 15ft aluminum ladderstands for $49.99, and it comes with a free safety harness, they also have decent hang-on stands clearanced for $29. You just can't beat that. Even places that are expensive usually have a couple of laddermodels for between $59 and $89. Sportsmans guide has 2 person stands for under $100 and 10-12 ft tripod stands with a swivel seat and rifle rest for $81. Now if I came across a bunch of free salt treated lumber I would probably make some but other than that it's not likely anymore.
