How many of you have mounted a deer?

3 and one just went to the taxi. I think a mountable deer is something you think is better than putting on a plaque. Spread, tine length, score, ??? it is up to you actually, that stuff means nothing if you think it is a respectable deer, and the money is there!!

Not to rob your post, but I have a question about mounts. I have an 8 point that I shot a few years ago, that I just put on one of those plaques that you buy at Fleetfarm. I would like to have it mounted sometime, but I would have to pick up a cape someplace. I know I could just wait and use the cape off from the next buck I get, but if I was going to buy one from a Taxidermest, what can I expect to spend on the cape?

25 years of hunting - and never a mount until this year.
This year's buck was a good one for us - probably going a bit over 100" - and I have a couple others that might score as well - but - this deer was older - more mature - even if his rack wasn't super impressive. Also - I'll always remember Dad helping me get it back to camp - it was then when I decided that "I've hunted 25+ years - seems like like I should have a mount that reminds me of this day!"

I haven't mounted any deer. I got talked into having a caribou mounted and gave it away as soon as I got it from the Taxidermist. I like to look at other people's mounts but won't ever have any in my house. I also like to take pictures and look back at those. The antlers that I still have are in a box in a shed.

Actually Tyler's first bowbuck 3 years ago is the first one I've had mounted. Britney's first deer will be mounted also whether it is a buck or a doe ( shoulder mount ). I've had the last two bucks that I've killed mounted. Our deal is...anything after the first has to be in the 140 range or better to get mounted. Course that is subject to change depending on what the kidsshoot and how bad they want it mounted. If it issmaller and the kids or I want to mount it later on whenwe come up with extra cash... we will haveit's cape tanned for sure.I can usually justify one shoulder mount a year with the wife nowand the kids always come first.
Someday I would like to get my first bow buck mounted.

I've mounted my 20" 11 point, a red fox, my son's first - 128" eight point when he was 14, and a turkey. All were bow kills except the turkey. The wall in my garage has over 20 racks nailed to it almost all bow kills. The 12 point non-typical I took this year almost made the trip, but I think I'll go with a plack instead. A buck has to be really good for me to part with the money it costs to get a good mount done around here.

Got 8 full shoulder mounted and one more just dropped off at the Taxidermist
Takes about 125 these days but some of my older ones are a littleless. Pretty much dont shoot a buck anymore unless he's a mounter

I don't shoot a buck that I don't plan on mounting. If I want meat I shoot a doe.
The reason a full-body, or shoulder mount is so much better than a European mount, IMO, is I shoot the animal, I dont shoot because of the rack. A European mount doesnt do the deer justice, it does the rack justice. I want to do the animal justice when I plan on mounting my deer. I have set my standards, 125 give or take 5" is my line. I plan on mounting every buck that I shoot. I am waiting for a 170" and over for a full-body mount. I have turkeys done, and some upland game. I love taxidermy!
