What is poaching?

That's right. I heard this week that the legislature is considering a bill overturning the blue law prohibiting SUnday hunting. I scrupulously adhere to the hunting regs but I am a little irritated that I can't hunt on Sundays and I want to (maybe am considering doing it on my own land awaiting the vote). I just wanted to get a sense of what my fellow hunters feel about this issue since, presumably, most of you can hunt on Sundays and I think I know how you feel about Mass. and its laws (how many of you agree with gay marriage btw).

hey mobow, what are you the frickin chief of the Missouri fish and game department. So the great and wise administrators of the MO fish and game laws establish the bright line rules. Does MO allow hunting on Sunday? If yes, why, morally, is it wrong to hunt on Sunday in my (admittedly crappy) state.
IA hunter, because in Boylston MA (and 50 or so other towns) I can hunt w/o landowner permission in my town I can't (BTW, I hunt state land, my own land or land that I have written permisson to hunt). If it is equally safe to do so in both, why is it morally wrong to hunt w/o permission in a town that prohibits it.

I've read lots of game laws, and morals are never brought up...you get a ticket today or something??? Sheesh....
Oh, and 1 more thing......To be LEGAL is to be MORAL....yes??

Even though what is legal is often times what is moral, it is not always the case.
The prime example of this is how the United States was formed. The founding fathers broke several laws to do what they thought was right, and nobody is criticizing them.
If my state did not allow hunting on Sunday because of church related idealogy, I would be motivated to go anyways because this violates "seperation of church and state."

A violation of ANY established game laws....

Hunting on Sunday would be a violation of the game laws of that particular state but not poaching unless you "kill" something!

I would love to hunt on Sundays but Virginia does not allow it. I think it is clearly a violation of church and state. However, I do believe a day of rest in the woods to be good for the deer, so I am kind of torn.

Maybe it could be a violation of sep. of church and state, but i dont think i could morally/respectfully hunt on Sunday. And there are Tons of worse things you can do on sunday then hunt, then again.... you can fish on sunday your taking live animals hmmmm. im way off topic... shutting up now.

I agree with some of the other posts to an extent. I think ethics and game laws go hand in hand. If there is a game law on the books then it MUST be followed. Every time there is a ticket issued to a hunter It is just another nail in the coffin. It may be that it was a tresspassing violation. The person that was tresspassed against will no longer give anyone permission to hunt. I know because it has happened to me. I lost the right to hunt my favorite farm because someone else tresspassed. The quote was "they came in and shot my place up."
I am not sure the "blue laws" are to force anyone into church but more to respect those that go. I might be wrong on this but that Is what I get out of it. Is there a difference between spotlighting a big buck and forgetting to plug your gun? Yes. Do they both reflect poorly on us as outdoorsmen? I think so. Everyone makes mistakes and forgetting to plug a gun is an honest mistake. I just think in this day and age we have got to be careful not to make the wrong mistakes. I want my grandkids to be able to hunt.
