Arrow not passing through?
#1
Can someone maybe explain to me why my arrows aren't passing through? I am shooting a Mathews Outback set at approximately 64 pounds, 28" draw, and shooting 125 grain slick trick broadheads. The slick tricks are brand new in box. I used on head to practice shooting just to make sure the bow was in tune, and there is no change in flight between broadheads and practice tips. I believe that my bow is well tuned and is shooting acurately.
My first kill this fall was on a wild boar that weighed approximately 150 lbs and I shot him from 10 yards away and I put my arrow perfectly behind the front legs! Brand new, factory sharp, never used slick trick and there wasn't even an exit hole. A perfect shot from 10 yards and still no pass through, much less no exit hole? The pig did die fairly quick, but it struck me odd that the arrow didn't even go all the way through...
My second kill was on a smaller 6-point buck from twenty yards away. I do admit that on this particular shot, I did shot a little higher than what I was hoping for, but still the arrow didn't go through...same results as the pig.
Any thoughts? Is there something that I am doing wrong or just got un-lucky on not getting a pass through? I would have figured that at 10 yards...I would have definitely got a pass through. With no exit hole, tracking is a little harder...
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

What is your total arrow weight? Around 400 grains, I assume. You've got to remember that mature boar hogs have a gristle plate over the front part of their chests that's awfully hard to penetrate. I like to shoot at least 500 grains for hogs, myself.
About the deer, I don't have a clue why you didn't zip through him.

I hita deer last year a little high like you explained and didnt squat for penetration, this year with the same set up i blew through two big does no prob. Some spots might just be a little bit tougher. On the equipment side, if you bow it not tuned correctly it will take some serious energy out of the arrow.

I think I experiment a little more with your broadheads. You arrow is about 403 grains with is plenty of wieght for a carbon arrow. gobblegetterNY is right about the spot hit. I have put a 400 grain carbon arrow through a deers paddle bone before with a complet pass through, but i wouldn't bet money on that happening every time. I shot one once with a 65 lb recurve and over a 500 grain arrow with a 140 grain cut on impact broadhead in the paddle bone at 15 yards and it bonced out only going in broaddhead deep. Makes a difference how you hit it. I have been blowing through every thing with my 400 grain axis arrows and thunderheads

Simple.......because you shoot a mathews. Theres just not enough power there to produce a pass through.
Buy a mans bow.....buy a bowtech..

I had the same problem with the Thunderheads untill I switched to Muzzy MX-4's and have had nothing but pass throughs as well as with the Wasps I started using this year.

There is nothing wrong with your setup or the broadhead. Your KE should be 55# or a little better which is plenty to do the job. Shot placement is everything. Hit a little high-low-back-forward and you can hit bone. You might have even hit bone on the backside depending your shot angle.
Bottom line: Your BH shot true, and created a fatal wound with an easy recovery.......the ST did it's job. Don't sweat the details.

hey guys..thanks for all the cmments...I have some G5 Strikers that I haven't tried on an animal yet. I have shoot the at my target to make sure they fly true and they do! I will see if maybe the different broadheads make a difference. I am shooting goldtip 5575 arrows.
