Default Ever heard the GROWL?

I'm asking this because on yesterday mornings hunt, I am almost 100% sure that a 2.5 yr. old 8 pointer grunted 3 times growled twice then grunted again.

He was chasing a doe around me for about 5 minutes.

It was a first for me and wondering if anyone else had ever heard it.

I am not doubting you, but why didn't anyone hear them "growl" until Primos and the Drurys came out with a call? Is it just because no one knew what it was before? Serious questions here.

I have never heard it. The only things I have heard are grunts and long drawn out grunts.

I have actually wondered this too.

My dad claimed he had heard it twice about 10 years ago from 2 different bucks one afternoon. But he said that he wasn't really sure, just sounded like a messed up grunt from them.

Before I saw the Drury video, I most likely wouldn't have really realized what it was. And unlike the video, every buck in the country didn't come running in to investigate.

I came home last night and checked over the DVD from Drury's to see, and sure sounded like what they were showing.

I have also heard, that with better buck to doe ratios, that the rut isshorter, but moreintense. Which some have said has made the "growl" more of a common sound in the deer woods.

Queef, what kind of a noise is that. Sounds kind of messy.

I have never understood the hype about it...its just a extra long, extra drawn out grunt. I have heard what people term as the 'growl' once before, maybe twice. Just like a contact grunt, bleat, snort wheeze,or tending grunt itattracts deerundercertain conditions

Its just like the fact that you will walk by a person 300 times in your life, and until you meet him you dont realize you pass him on nearly a daily basis. Now after you meet him youll see him all the time. Coincidence? No, its just now you realize what you are seeing because it makes sense to your mind now. To relate this to the call, maybe its a real call maybe its not. i believe its real, and its just an aggressive grunt. The reason noone never "heard" the sound before was because people just thought it was a regular grunt,or a grunt that came out to hard. And even when the sound was heard, the sound fell on deaf ears to say..they didnt think it was a total new vocalization.. which it may very well not be.. it may just be a grunt and it may have the same meaning as a grunt, but the fact of if a buck actually makes the sound is easy to see, they do.. And for the nonbelievers you have most likely heard the sound before yourself, and now that you listen for it most likely you will hear it again.
