Default I missed...

TWICE today[:@] I went out to sight in my .270 today and figured before I did that I would go sit in the stand for a little while. About 10-15 minutes after getting in the stand I have a nice doe trot past me about 40-50 yards out but couldn't get her to stop. About 2 minutes later she circles back around and get about 25 yards out,I set my pin and give her a quick call and she stops. I pull the trigger and the arrow flies right under her. She now runs off. About 2 minutes after she is long gone a spike buck comes in and I give him a short call and he head in my direction. Stop him at 20 yards and set my pin a little high this time. Hit the trigger and once again, right under him too!

On my sights the top pin lost the colored part so I have it moved up to the topand the bottom 2 set for shooting. I figured I must have set the top pin I don't use on them since I was so excited (still tying for my first bow deer)

Now here is the funny part (is now!) I go to the woods with 4 arrows, 3 w/ broadheads and one field tip (target practice if the squirrels get too annoying) when I got up in my stand one of my arrows with the broadhead must have fell out. The lil' spike buck stuck around for 15 minutes trying to figure out what I was but kept moving and had many chances to take him again but all I have is a field tip,[:@] and my 3rd w/ the broadhead was 10 feet below me laying on the ground! So here I am, no chance to take him once I figured out what went wrong with the first 2 shots, starring at the deer then my arrow, on the ground. It seemed like I waited forever for him to leave so I could go also. Part was my fault too as I kept messing w/ him for about the first 14 of the 15 minutes he was there afterwards with the grunt call and practicing my own "mouth" calls. So I guess it was worth it being able to figure out how to do my own calls on a live deer who already suspects somethings wrong.

Now that I am done boring you all, I will tell you the .270 is dialed in and shooting 1/4" groups at 50 yds (all the longest I will take at this spot) and if he comes back he will be mine next weekend! Still can't wait for bow to open back up on the 21st. Today just got me really excited.

Dang, that sucks man but you'll get em next time. Plus, if you get him the .270 TEAM 18 will get some points!!!

Guess that squirrel hunt doesn't sound so important now. Oh, for one more broadhead. I certainly don't know if I would have taken another shot, though, considering what happened with the first two. Just my opinion.

Yeah but it was just a little spike, not contest worthy.

I thought about that and even if the 3rd arrow was ready, I wouldn't have taken the shot for a while. Didn't even think about it until I figured out what I done wrong and knew I could correct it. I see what you mean though.
