Kudos to ground hunters

So, I tried hunting from the ground the past two evenings (Fri & Sat). I am hunting a really think patch of woods thats right on the Trinity river. I have a doe and a yearling come in together on Fri with the doe leading and she get to 13 yards and sees me sitting there against a tree. She if freaked for a second but goes about her business but between her and the yearling it seems like one always had their eyes on me. Needless to say they end up looking back at me a couple minutes later and I am in a new position to draw and they freak and run off. So tonight I am out again and setup on the opposite side of that trail and see a doe and two yearlings coming in together. By this time I am dying for some meat so I am drawing back on a yearling at 22 yards and the other at 18 yards spots me. The doe then moves in to about 20to check me out and is trying to figure out what in the world I am. They slowly make their way around to my left staying out of any possible shooting lanes but keeping an eye on me and by this time my arm is starting to shake out of control cause I have been at full draw for a while now but cant let down cause they are still watching. They circle all the way around back of me and when I finally turn around I see the biggest blackest hogofmy life at about 35 yards and he runs the deer off then leaves himself. If I was in a tree stand I know that there would have been arrows flying both evenings. But it is one hell of a rush being eye level and that close. Sorry about the long post I just cant stop thinking about how much of a rush this weekend has been even if no venison is in the freezer yet.

Sounded like a great time. I've had more oppurtunities this year to take deer on the ground than I ever have. Not tooting my own horn but I guess I've gotten perty dag gum good at it.
Are you paying close attention to the wind? I realize this is not the best method out there but I tie a piece of thread on my sight bar to indicate wind direction. It helps a bunch. Instead of standing in front of trees; try finding a small cluster of trees to get between or behind. Build a blind?
OR....maybe some open patterned camo is in your future?

There is a really big levy that runs all along the river and I am on the side of that so there is no wind except in the tops of the trees. Mosquitos like crazy cause of the lack of wind and abundance of water though. While I wasat full draw I noticed five skeeeter on my left hand all biting me through the glove. I havea a 3D leafy bug suit on and they still bite through that sometime. But I think the suitis why the deer are not running off right away. I think it breaks up my outline enough so they dont know what to think of me. I might try and get down there to build a blind mid day tomorrow. Just dont want to spook anything that is coming through there cause I got a pic of a real nice 11 pointer the other day on the game cam.
