Default RE: Deer stolen ?

I had one stolen a few years ago. I shot a nice heavy 10pt. Made good shot, lots of blood, justbefore dark. Didnt want to push him so I went out the next morning. Found his body 100 yards from my stand. No Head. Someone must have seen me or got on the blood walking out of the woods. This was on public land. Needless to say I have never gone back. Unfortunately, this happens a lot in PA. Every year you will hear of fights during gun season, I shot the deer, no i shot the deer, blah blah blah. SUCKS! if you ask me.

I was hunting in Missouri once when a some young ladys came into are camp at night to ask us if we would help one of them find her deer. We did and tracking it down we came up on a gut pile no deer it was draged out to the road and gone. It was her first bow kill she almost broke down and cryed. We thought it may of been some coon hunter that came up on it and took it because we had heard some dogs running earlyer in the evening.

I had a doe stolen last year hunting on public land. Shot at 3:15, waited 30 min, then got down checked for blood. Found blood and then took my stnad to the truck. I got back to the blood trail about 4:15, tracked for 30 min right to the back of a pickup truck. My deer still had my arrow in it. Make a long story short i didn't get my deer or my arrow. The deer ran through the woods to the next road over and piled up about 10 ft from a parking area to get into the public hunting area. The best i can tell is the guy pulled in to go hunting and walked 10 ft and said to himself.. that was easy!

My boyfriend shot a doe this season at about 20 yards and hit her right in the heart and she fell. He waited about 20 minutes before he got out of his stand to go gut her. He walked over to her wiggled the arrow and sat his backpack on her and left to go get help dragging her out. He came back and no deer...the backpack was there and all his stuff....but no deer. Weird..

Sasquatch! That is the only explination I think that some of these probably went by another hunter and he didn't see the first hole and shot it again and it happened to fall right in front of them. Honestly, who would take someone elses deer, that is just weird.....

I'm sure some folks do steal other people's deer. I've unfortunately met more unethical hunters than ethical hunters (in person). Deer theft happens most assuredly. But it can also be an accident.

I was rifle hunting whitetails with a friend. I drove toward his stand and he shot a decent buck. Dropped right where he shot it. He field dressed it (it's how I first learned) and then we noticed that there were three holes: an entrance and an exit that fit with how he shot (angle, side, placement, etc.) and then another chest shot. It was further back, probably clipped a lung.

He had no idea that it was wounded when it approached his stand. He had no way of knowing who had first shot it or even if they were tracking it. We had not heard any gunfire that morning that sounded close enough to be of interest but echoes can be deceiving.

I don't think he stole anyone's deer. But there may well be someone out there telling a "stolen" deer story about that buck.

If I ever shoot a Deer and someone else steals or claims it there will be hell to pay...I will have them arrested or get into a good fight! If I ever found someone else's deer I would rather try to find out who shoot it than to take it and claim it as my own!

I have shot Deer on our Farm....went back to get help and the Tractor to haul it out or have field dressed it then went to get the Tractor,if I would come back and someone was hauling it off or claiming it as their own someone is going to need an ambulance before it was all over! [:@] From some of the above post it sounds like someone had heard or seen the other person shoot the deer and then waited til they left to go get help or a vehicle to haul it out and then purposely stole the deer.....how could you feel proud about stealing another persons deer?

Are you referring to my post when you say the "post above" or to the one that started the thread. If you're referring to mine, I can assure that both my buddy and I were out to our stands before daybreak and, as I mentioned, did not hear any gunfire that sounded as though it came from particularly close by. From the angle he shot it (evidenced by the entry and exit holes), he would not have even been able to see the first hole. We knew the local landowners and who hunted where--even where the stands were--for safety's sake. There was no tension or bad blood between anyone. He was in no way attempting to get someone else's deer.
