I dont care for crossbows personally, I enjoy actually working to get a shot. I have a family member that uses a crossbow and I think he thinks it is more than what it is. It creates a sense of being a gun that can not miss and that can cause unethical shots from long ranges, ect. If he crushes a monster, "during visable shooting hours" it should be thrown in a totally different category.

Sorry people but a crossbow is not a bow! Its a mechanism that is already drawed and sitting there waiting to be realeased by a trigger! There for to me its more of a gun then anything! ThePope and Young Club was skeptable about allowing the hunting releases when they came out. The Pope And Young Club holds high standards and i hope they continue to do this. They've given inenough already, they now allow a higher let off in the books compaired to what it was before.

I believe Pope & Young members should only be voting on this.
Good point!

No. Even if they are equal in speed and accuracy, there is something to be said for getting a bow drawn on a trophy animal. So its really just a short range gun, not a bow. I have no problem with people hunting with then, they should just be in another class.

The effective range is the same, they both use strings and arrows, projectile speed is the same, accuracy is similar, so I don't see why not. Compounds are smaller and quieter than crossbows and have a greater rate of fire. That said, Pope and Young is a private entity and they can do what they like. If they decide carbon arrows don't count in their book, then they won't count in their book, and there's no way they can make me care about what they do. If by the grace of God I connect on a 200 inch buck, the last thing on my mind will be whether the people at Pope and Young like my weapon.

Taditional archery tackle and compounds are different enough, bringing in crossbows is like comparing buckshot to a slug gun.
And comparing traditional tackle to a compound is like comparing the family sedan to a race car.

Even if they are equal in speed and accuracy, there is something to be said for getting a bow drawn on a trophy animal.
Then you must be willing to support the following:
-Limiting letoff so you can't pull a compound back hold 2 minutes or more (resting the bottom limb on your leg).
-Eliminating ground blinds of any kind
-Treestand hght limited to 5 ft and under.

Deer & Deer hunting December edition has a article about trophys and how some of the biggest bucks are not your most memorable. With that being stated I would have to agree that memories made are more valueable then the racks. My 168 last year is great but what occured with my brother is something irreplacable. So this P&Y stuff not as important anymore. Yes I will still enter if I get another one but just not as high on the list now.

Crap I sound like GMMAT now.

Oops I mean sunshine
