You going to live there Full Time? We lived here for two years without electric or a Well.Use Coleman Lights but would go with Propane if had to again.Used spring to keep stuff cool and get water.

Hardest part was keeping cool durring Hot weather, but we would go to the river, cool down before Bedtime.

Most people around here just use Propane for Lights and Refridgeration. But some including me are getting electric.

I agree with generator and propane. Buy a 6500 watt generator, a couple of 20 lb propane bottles and you're good to go. Hunted in alot of cabins with this set-up.

i just talked with a friend of mine that had this to say.

his brother bought some land and built a hunting cabin the elec. company wonted 10 grand to run the wire to his house. Had to run a 1mile of poles and wire to get there

He said no and went back to his gen.

They said ok how about five grand he said no. They then came back and said ok 2500 he said noi again .

He went and bought a few batterys from trains and bought a altenater for a car hooked the altenater up to a gas lawnmower engine to charge the batterys and i gusses his light bill is about 10 dollors or so amonth for gas

if there are poles close to you you can get it hooked up cheap or free

the guy whose land i hunt had his hooked up and they had to put in three poles from his dad house and did not charge him a dime expect going under the highway and that cost 1500

There are a lot of great websites that offer photovoltaic (solar)options. Some states even give a tax break. My next house will have nothing but solar and rain water. I refuse to pay The Man any longer than I have to for somthing that should be free to begin with. [&:]

Check out: www.motherearthnews.com

You can do a search of their database to find sites and info on pv electricity. I will say that start up costs are not cheap. And don't think you can get by with a panel that's used for hotwire. You'll need several large panels to power a house or cabin. You also need to plan a location for battery storage. You'll need the batteries to store power during times when it's bright and sunny and your house isn't pulling much electricity...the power has to go somewhere. The benefit of this is when it's cloudy out; solar panels don't work in cloud cover. Use the batteries to light the house.

As far as water..Mother Earth News, again, has info. There are a lot of rain catchment ideas out there. Put them to use.

Good luck!

Sounds like my cabin.

We use an old Kohler Generator to light the place. It's only rated at 1000 watts. It's a little small to run something like a circular saw. We have a 5000 watt for that. But we leave the 1000 watt generator there. If someone decides to steel it, we won't be out all that much $$$.

We have a floor propane furnace a long with a wood burner for heat.

We usually bring our own water. We do have a shower that we run with a Zodi water heater.

We use one solor panel only to keep a car battery charged. It comes in handy to run the zodi along with the electric starter on the generator.

We kind of shy away from fully running solor pannels or a wind mill. They are both pretty expensive and leaving them outside in the open kind keeps me uneasy in fear of theft.

i have been looking at toy hauler campers and wasgoing to put solar panels on them

but the guys at the shop said there only there to charge battery that you have to run of the batterys and then use the solar panels to charge the batterys that there is not enough power coming from the panels to do anything but charge batterys
