I think you hit the nail on the headwith those comments Jeff, i guarantee there is alot more to storys than we read. I started out many years ago with no direction at all, just the will to hunt and learn the hard way. I made many many mistakes over the years, some im ashamed of some just happen with not much you can do about it. I wish i would of had the kind of info you have put out there to learn from. i would have absorbed stuff like this like candy. Dont deny some of the newer hunters info they can learn from, if they dont want to read it then they can just skip it. Thanks for the front row seat Keep it real

GR8....do me a favor, then....

Keep it real. I wonder sometimes,....when we see the "I got one" threads.....just what occurred that day. Did they make a one shot-one kill scenario happen.....or was there more to the story that will never be told??? What happened Tuesday, prior to Saturday's "I got one"? Wouldn't it be interesting to KNOW how many shots a person took in a bow season. How many times did they take a shot and retriee the arrow later.......and were glad no one was looking. Hell I gave you all a front row seat.

Good luck, Bob!

Wash had a good idea "concentrating" all the "every shot" posts into one thread. I'm still wondering why it's hard to skip over posts, though???? We each hold the key to what we read and what we choose to ignore.....via a simple mouse click, or not.
I just got home from class, so I appologize for replying so late to this. It isn't that I don't like reading the posts, I've read them all. I honestly think what you're doing is great and I wish that more people were willing to admit when they've made a poor shot, wounded/lost an animal, etc. It takes a big man to step up and admit it.

My point was that with the amount of people now making this type of post, we're seeing (or were, there aren't many at this point) a flood of these type of post which pushes other threads to page two. Again, I think it would just be easier for everyone to concentrate them into one post rather than several.

I must have missed them, then, Dan. I was thinking Twilsdain's was the first since mine.

Even though I wasn't in the original promise thread I put up my longbow miss and titled with a higher number. Maybe that was one of the ones he saw?

If nothing else, it's educational for those who don't understand what can happen to anyone. Take nothing for granted. Even in a target rich enviornment it doesn't take much to screw up.At the same time we haveseveral relatively new people to bowhunting around here. Many profess to be killing machines and seem to always have the answers. They ask for advice, we give it... and they always come up with a reason/excuse that makes it not applicable to them. In the same breath they think a crotchetty old fart can't possibly tell them anything about hunting. The attitude, "Take me on in a target shoot out old man".

It isn't only Jeff that's wounded some deer this year. I don't know what it is, but there's more and more of it going on lately. I blame it on the need to succeed and come on here and post pictures to show what a great bowhunter they are. One kill makes them an expert. If you don't believe me ask Tiffany or any of the other new "EXPERTS" on TV. They went from non hunters, airline attendants to the people everyone wants to be like. All they needed was some good private ground and a camera. I've seen them barely and in a couple cases UNABLE to pull their bow back... yet people put them on TV and made them stars. I think people think they can do anything because they can hit a piece of paper. I think everyone should be made to learn to kill a deer with a recurve before they can buy a compound. It would make them better shots and better hunters. Oh I know it'll never happen... but somewhere in all this hype with better equipment and more info at our disposal people are performing below what I call acceptable standards. This isn't pointed at GMMAT either. He didn't have this problem last year or the year before. He's obviously hit a bad streak and has to decide if it's him or what. If you ask for help... consider the advice, don't find excuses to make it not applicable in your woods. Chances are in most cases it's the shooter whether they want to admit it or not. Maybe GMMATs thead will open some eyes and minds or maybe it'll close some. It is educational only if someone is willing to read and learn or contemplate.

You're right, Rybo. So we have 6 of mine, one of yours and one from twilsdain.

Good luck with that longbow. I'm hoping to hunt with mine, next season......if the practice works out good. Keep us informed.

I try to stay out of the mudslinging....hence no comment on any of these posts lately. I have read every single one.

Jeff, your attitude to hunting is commendable, you are open to constructive criticism and really respect the game. That cannot beever blotted out.Yea you screwed up a couple times, but you are actively wondering why and want to take steps to avoid it in tht future. Your heart is true, and that is the most important part of all this. I very much enjoyed these posts and wish people(not just you)would keep them up.

Good Luck with the rest of your season.

Joe

Boy, I couldn't have said it better myself.....great post David.

I will add this though....It's tough to come here on a public domain and spell out your mistakes for all the world to see. I personally think there are better ways of helping without subjecting yourself to such criticism. We all at one point or another have made shots we wouldn't do again. For some of us it turned out ok, but it could have just as easy not. So we learn from them and when someone asks for help we advise based on that experience.

I have yet to lose a deer that was hit in all my years of hunting.....but I have clean missed some (I mentioned one instance on this forum a while back) that could have easily turned out bad so is there a difference?

I have never nor will I ever spell out all of my hunting exploits like GMMAT has but I also don't think I (or anybody else) needs to in order to help others learn and grow as hunters.
