Default Monitoring Deer Traffic

I'm trying to fin out how often deer are using a trail that I found. I don't have the cash for a camera. Is there any "home-made" way to do this?

you can do the old fashioned tie fishing string across the trail but that sucks! you can buy pretty cheap 35mm cameras. I got a digital camera from the bargain cave at cabelas for $37.

also, the company trailtimer used to make trail monitors that are cheaper then cameras. they made one with string that you put across the trail - it would tell you when the deer crossed the string.
