Ok guys, I think this will be a simple question for you but it's got me stumped. All my hunting so far has been done in the woods, no fields. My buddy wants me to help him get a spot set up in a sort of metro/farm area. All we have access to is a small patch of woods maybe 20 feet across to set up a blind. This happens to be right between a corn field and alfalfa field
. There is really only two patches of real woods around (one is about 2 acres, the other is maybe 10)and we know they bed in there but we dont have access to hunt it. We also know that they visit the alfalfa field fairly frequently for a nice morning or evening snack. But, we've only spotted them about 150-200 yards away.
My question to you all is, how can we get these darn things closer!! I dont really think that the bait idea will work because of the massive abundance of grub laying around. I was had a few ideas in mind, but I really need your input. I thought maybe a mineral lick, just as a change of pace for them. My only other idea was decoy. I figured that this would work best during the rut, which just so happens to be coming up fairly soon. But I'm actually totally new at this whole "strategy" thing so I could be totally missing something here. And I included a make**** map to sort of help, thanks for the compliments on my artwork skills
.

Yellow= Corn field, Green= Alfalfa, Brown= Woods, Black= Road, White= Where we can put the blind

We do have access to alfalfa and the corn, but there are some stipulations. It is kind of an urban area and there are houses on on bottom part where the cornfield continues down on the picture. We have access to the alfalfa but we need to stay away from the woods on the left and the woods on the right (another hunter in there once in a great while). So really I figured the only place to set up was in the white area.
