Some ask if you had to shoot 100# to hunt elephants.
Its not about the wt as much as it is about the kinetic energy. I was shooting around 106 to 110 pounds of KINETIC energy. Most information I found before the hunt was you needed at least 90# ofKINETIC energy, but then I found where someone else said 100# of KINETIC energy. So honestly I don't know the exact number, I would suggest at least 100#'s of KINETIC energy, if you can get it with a lighter bow wt go for it. Easton has a kinetic energy calculater on there site to help you figure it. I believe its ARROW SPEED factored with TOTAL ARROW WT. to calculate kinetic energy.

No busted lips, just close calls. It happened twice before I started making phone calls to companies trying to find out who had one that would hold up to the wt. The Original Knottless loop was rated for 400 pounds. That should do it!
The first time I was at half draw, Sent an arrow flying over the tree tops. Actually was kind of scary when you think about it.

Congrats broadside on what seems like just an unbelievable adventure! And thank you for taking the time to answer peoples' questions.
For those who ask why or say that this is somehow wrong... I find it hilarious that some of you were the same people saying yesterday that "we are our own worst enemies".Do you guys ever look in the mirror?

Sorry man.......To me some animals are just not what I call fair game! I think elephants are in the category of animals that need to be protected from hunters and should be off limits! I've been to Africa before and never had any desire to go on a hunt. There are plenty of North American Game species here to hunt.Complete the North American Grand Slam, and then move on to other Continants. Any animal that has recently been on endangered/threatened species lists should be off limits.

No.........it's not.
In Zimbabwe there are over 90,000 elephants. This many elephants can wipe outan entireforest. I personally saw area's wiped out, the trees stunted at about 5' tall. The Whange National Parkhas plansto take 1000 elephants out of the park this year because of over populations.
They are the king of all animals.

I guarantee you an Elephant hunt is harder than any Whitetail or Elk hunt you've ever had!

It will get in your blood.

I have'nt completed my Grand Slam here in the state's but getting close. Waiting on those once in a life time tags to be drawn. Then I will have it, but I 'm not going to set around and wait.
You sound like an anti. As for not hunting something that has been on the endangered / threatened species list you need to take a close look at what you are saying. Whitetail deer at one time were endanger, Elk, moose, bison all have been on that list at some point in time. So how about we not let you hunt Whitetail this year???
African Elephants are in no danger, nor have they been on any such list in recent years. Please check your facts before stating them!

"Atlasman" posted saying "why would anyone shoot one and call it a hunt"
Why would you say something like this?
I could say the same thing about a Whitetail hunter. You set in a tree waiting on a deer that you have patterened his whole routine with a game camera, or you used a feeder. "Why would you call this a hunt"
I at least stalked my animal with in 15 yards, what do you think an elephant just stands there fore you. Read up on the number of deaths cause to hunters, and PH's in Africa by Charging Elephants.
You should experience something before yoube littleit!
I thought we were all hunters here and were on the same side. Now I am wondering.
