The CRP is the Conservation Reserve Program. They willusually pay the landownerupto let them fix up/replenish the land. The land owner will receive annual rental payments and a payment up toabout 50percent of what it costs to improve the land. They improve it for wildlife habitat, trees, waterways etc. Usually you are not allowed to hunt these areas until the program is over.

All the CRP that I know ofis huntable. But the government pays the farmer not to farm the land or graze the land. Lots and lots of it is in walk-in public hunting in CO. and KS. Makes great wildlife habitat, especially for upland birds.

In Nebraska it's walk in only hunting. I also believe that the farmer must opt in to a program to allow it for public hunting. Game and parks pay then a couple bucks an acre in return for allowing it open to the public.

My family has CRP land in kansas. It is a conservation program that pays the farmer so much money per acre to plant it to CRP grass. The grass is a blend of grasses that grows pretty tall and makes great cover for upland birds, deer, turkeys, etc.... It is specified in the contract how much land is planted and the land has to be aproved for it. You can hunt it, you can't drive in it, you have to burn it off 1 time in the 10 year contract period. From what I have seen with our land the pheasant population has really grown. The deer love to bed down in it especially when it gets really cold out. You are able to make a road through it if you get that approved in the contract. We also have food plots around the outside of ours that are included in the 10 year contract. It sure has helped our wildlife populations.
